Anyone familiar with Scarne's Red and Black speller can figure out how to make an Ace to King spelling... you pick a small pack of cards and shuffle a little bit, cut and start spelling ACE, the next card is an ACE... TWO, the next card is TWO, etc... the part I don't like from Scarne's is the fact that you keep moving one card from top to bottom for each letter. I like to count from my left hand to my right and then use the cards in the right hand to turn over the top card in the left package. That works fine until you get to the JACK where you don't have enough cards to do it.

A couple of questions....
1. Do you use all the cards from the same suit, or random cards? I like the randomness at the beginning when showing a group of cards, but I also like the end picture if all the cards where the same suit.
2. Would you add some extra random cards that you will not spell, but would help you in the handling described above?
3. Would you try to add an effect with those remaining cards? If we are left with five cards, they could be shown to be a royal flush (but I can not find a justification for that) or another whole suit sorted from Ace to King (which would be nice, but it would be staring with 26 cards... maybe too much for a 'small' package'

Right now, I'm using 26 cards, A-K of clubs and A-K of hearts... during the spelling, the clubs are revealed from A to K, and at that point I'm left with A-K of hearts, sorted from top to bottom... so I can just start turning them up one by one and showing that the rest also sorted itself (?)... or I would do that if I need to end here. If I need to continue, I don't reveal the A-K of hearts, I'll put them on top of the deck and I have a sorted pack to go onto another effect (when they think that the deck is all shuffled)

Thoughs? improvements? critiques?

Thanks!!

Hi Marc,

Do you have Skype? If you contact me I can demonstrate how I do this.

If not, I can try to make time to write out a description, but showing you would be easier.

Rudy

You've reminded me of a darn good spelling thing called Spell All, in APOCALYPSE. I'll be re-writing it for ONLY MY APOCALYPSE, if I ever get around to it. (It's a "jaw dropping" kind of thing.)

This is the instruction sheet I hand out to my students when I teach magic classes at Circus Camp in Atlanta. For the older kids I teach them to have the packet of cards on top of the deck, do a simple false-cut, count off 13 cards (keeping them in order) then finishing the effect as written.

Thanks Greg, I'm trying to avoid the end with the Jack, the Queen and the King... it looks kind of silly to move the top to bottom instead of just counting. In my version, it ends the same way, except that I'm left with the Ace to King of a different suit already ordered in the hand, so I can finish with an extension on the table to reveal an extra effect.
