Hi Fellas,

Here's something that I've been working on and I'm curious if you've already seen it somewhere?

At this time, I'm sharing the tutorial with our Inner Circle members in the Session Room.

When I saw it the first time, I thought you put the card on the deck in a "sloppy" way and didn't suspect a thing. Then when you revealed what had happened... Booom! You hit me between the eyes... Nice move...

Most likely it is a variation of a move previously thought of by someone...

Would it qualify as a top change?

Just wondering...

Thanks Stu and Luis!

I'm sending you the link so that you can see what I'm doing.

I appreciate the positive feedback [smile]

Pretty cool Rudy. Looked great. Is it "knacky"? I didn't watch it multiple times, so only going by what I thought I saw.  Thinking Luigimar is on track with it being a variation, but you would need some of our bigger guns here for the final verdict.

It's not horribly knacky, but will take a bit of practice.

One of our members pointed out something that looked similar to what I'm doing. It's on the Dan and Dave Trilogy, but while it looks the same...I begin with just a single card.

I'll send you the link to my little tutorial, Tom.

Very nice. Agree that the beauty is the nonchalant attitude. Harry would appreciate the reference to attitude, he writes about it a lot.
Very nice top change substitute! Sort of similar to the switch where you turn a card face up on the table and scoop it up with the FD deck. This is a two-handed, aerial relative. Good stuff, would love to see the tutorial.

I just sent you the link, RayJ. Thanks for the kind comments!

Sweet and sneaky! That's my kind of switch! I burned the move several times and still, I remain bamboozled.

Closest thing I know of is in John Mendoza's booklet called "Throwing the Switch". He mentions a one-for-one switch. His mechanics are different but similar. Chris Kenner's switch is also similar to Mendoza's but has some subtle differences. Kenner's changed a bit from when I first saw him working on it in the early 80's. We were both active in the local IBM Ring One in St. Louis. I swore he had to be using double facers or something. Looked that good.

Man, it's a drag to realize that you only re-invented the wheel.

Two of our members, RayJ and Bulla, pointed out that this has been done by John Mendoza in his "Throwing the Switch" booklet and the Buck Twins have also done a variation of this move called the "Simpler Switch" that is on their Trilogy set.

Further proving that there is truly nothing new under the sun!

I'm so thankful that we have such knowledgeable magicians hanging around here at the Magician's Forum!

Hi Rudy,

I am a little late to the game here.  I wonder if you wouldn't mind sending me the link regardless of who else invented it.

Your performance was subtle and facile.  Hence, I'd love to learn it.

Just so you know that this can happen anywhere, I had this great idea for a computer add-on for a popular program.  So my technical friend got busy and created it.

Well, turns out the last time i looked for anything like this it was three years ago.  In those three years, it had been created.

Morale of my story is measure twice and cut once in the land of computers.

Magic, well it's a bit harder because sometimes the crediting needs to be found in the way you found it.  Notwithstanding, kudos to you for asking the group and same to RayJ and Bulla for finding it.  Impressive all the way around and the crediting got done.

Thanks!

But look at the company you are in, your magical thinking is along the lines of some very good magicians.

Yes, related to Throwing The Switch but not identical. There was also something in Apocalypse too. I'll see if I can track it down, though Harry might remember.

That looked really good. Although I get the basics of what you're doing, I'd definitely be interested in the video to see exactly how you go about it.

Rudy, Your performance of that very deceptive double lift is absolutely first rate! You deserve credit for your creativity and immaculate handling, regardless of whether anyone has done anything similar in the past. I would like to be able to view your tutorial if that is possible.

I like this and have been working on it here and there, with a slightly modified handling. Since the video is private I don't know if it would be appropriate to discuss the handling here, and I don't have access to the session room. I am also working on using this technique as a sort of pass/card control from the middle.

I always had a similar idea in my head, and didn't really think it would work until you posted this. I should probably trust myself more often.

Hi Jeremy,

I look forward to talking more about this in the Session Room.

We could also have a video session whenever you've got the time.

I'd like to see what you're done with this!

Rudy
