I was reminded of this by Damian Jennings on the "Impromptu Card At Any Number" thread. Among many other things David is a solid thinker. It’s not all tricks, but that shouldn’t stop anybody interested in Magic.

I thought it deserved a star spot of its own.

Thanks Damian.

Interesting ... I'm having a phone conversation with a magic acquaintance and at one point he says "Thanks for starting the ACAAN craze." Well, I've been accused of starting a few "crazes" - like my SNAP!, the broken & restored rubber band effect (1960s) and my One-Eyed Jack Sandwich effect (1970s, I think). And as I've written often enough - I don't know whether I want to accept the credit - or the blame.

Anyway, this I never thought of - I don't really know if there's a connection. What that magic acquaintance said when I asked "How in the world did I start the ACAAN craze?" is --- "Well, with your great effect Numero Uno."

Well, as I said, never thought of it. I did originally publish that some time back in the 1980s - and it does involve the spectator naming a number and - his thought-of card is found at that number. (If Numero Uno did in fact start the ACAAN craze, I really don't know whether I want to accept the credit - or the blame!)

That's funny, Harry. I was wondering which effect of yours could have started the ACAAN obsession, but when you mentioned Numero Uno, I smiled because that trick has such a profound effect on everyone who witnesses it that I can totally see why that would start people being obsessed with the card at number idea.
