I only do one effect with the ESP cards and that's Symbologic by Hen Fetch. It's basically a matching effect and you do need a table to do it on. Larry Becker used to have a dealer item with the cards and two envelops that played strongly but it's no longer on the market.

What is your favorite Zener card effect ? Or, what other effect do you do as a test of clairvoyance, with or without the Zener cards ?

Unfazed also, but much quicker, more like Eugene Burger's version.

Agree. I, too, use Mr. Berger's handling and patter. It suits me far better since my style is vastly different from Ben's.

Symbologic has been a go-to effect for me for years. I use it as a warm up to begin establishing which audience members are among the "most perceptive".

Interestingly, in Curtain Call, Barrie Richardson describes an effect that uses this principle, but features quarters instead of cards. The coins have colored stickers on one side, and the spectator matches every quarter the performer lays down.

It's quite a bit more organic and visually and sonically more interesting. I'll admit that even with the benefits, it's probably not an effect I'll use. But, I thought it may be of interest to others.

My favorites are in the chapter discussing these cards in my book "Mentalism With Cards" . If anyone reading this thread has my book, worth going back and re-reading that chapter. I also discuss the various ESP decks.

Others are the one on my "Mind Stuff" DVD for stand up performance and the marketed "ESPecially Wild", though I've never performed the latter in a straight mental performance. I still occasionally use that in close up as a recreation of a strange thing that happened in the early days of parapsychology research that was never recorded because no-one would have believed it! One more vote for Ben's "Unfazed." It's simple and absolutely stunning.
I've also done a very simple routine involving a stacked sequence and an envelope. Nothing groundbreaking, but it's served my wife and I well.

Max Maven's "Centrifugal ESP" is very good. It is not a matching effect. He also demonstrates two tricks using ESP decks on his Videomind DVDs.

I don´t remember what it is called but a very clean version, you put down your card first, then the spectator etc. is on one of the videos of Enlands Jon Tremaine, a name not so often  mentioned in these days...but a real working professional!

Bob King had a nice effect, I'll have to look up the name though.

It can be found on: The Jon Tremaine Close-Up Mental Act video. LLEPUB.COM currently has it as a download for 60% off so for less that $8 one can have the full act.

Welcome to TMF Mac..

I like Jon Tramaine as he presents the classics of mentalism. He is very easy going and connects with the audience even with his speech impediment.

People just starting out in the art of mentalism should study this tape. $8 bucks is a great value here...I just wished he'd give credit to the orginator's of the effects he was doing, but, otherwise one can learn a lot here.

Best,

Jon also used to sell the ESP card effect with the cards, it was called "With Sight Unseen".  I recall having seen the VHS tape years back, a good example of doing a mental show at private parties. He also had a club act (he was mentioned in one of the James Bond books written by John Gardner). Jon was a great professional, as entertainment trends changed so did he, even doing cruising, children's magic, writing beginners books etc. Nice guy.

I don't recall the credit issues, a long time since I saw it, but I'm sure he had some original touches.
