I found this phrase in an ad for a book:  "magic's most influential and persuasive voice"

Any guesses who they were talking about?

Hint: I suspect the accolade is self-awarded.

Well being "self-awarded," I narrowed it down to about a thousand.
I then cheated a bit, but I'll keep quiet whilst others have a think.

Oy. I'm guessing they are among the departed, else we'd not be discussing it here. Obviously not tongue in cheek, so... Frank Garcia? It's a WAG, but like Blathermist wrote, it could be one of a thousand! (And he may be low balling.)

Ah, AV, you are more considerate and sensitive than I.   The person identified as "magic's most influential and persuasive voice" is very much among the living.

Hey, maybe it's accurate!  But I can effortlessly think of many other names, both living and dead, whose claims to this title would be much stronger (IMHO).

I am going to guess ... Harry Blackstone Jr, Mark Wilson or possibly Jamy Ian Swiss

I would agree but then Robin's comment about others being better would be wrong!

Self Awarded?  Then my guess would be Harry Lorayne or Docc Hillford or Max Maven.

but I was wrong on all counts.   I didn't realize anyone had a bigger ego than Docc or Max Maven.

Hmm. I, too, had to look up the answer on Google to satisfy my curiosity. Many of the names that popped up in this thread (Garcia, Lorayne, Maven, Swiss) are from the same part of the country. Something in the water around there?

Please note that I have no concrete evidence that this "title" was self-awarded ... that was just my personal suspicion.
