I was doing some research about the power of music and came across this article that I thought some of you might enjoy.

Two things that Richard Horn, the author of the article (who, ironically, is a professor of physiology at a medical school) said, that really stood out for me:

"I learned that magic comes from inside you, not from technical skills."

"I discovered, especially for magic, that the dreaded diagnosis [of Parkinson's Disease] actually improved my ability to relate personally to my audiences, and that greatly enhanced their enjoyment."

When I read or hear about situations such as have befallen Richard, it heightens my appreciation for the gifts I have been given that are often taken for granted - especially the gift of health.  It makes you think twice about complaining or defaulting to what is not right in your life or the world at large, and instead, to focus upon and be grateful for the many blessings bestowed.

So true. I drive a stick and took it for granted. Then one day I got hit with a bout of tennis elbow. I had problems shifting into 5th gear. A stupid little motion that I did numerous times a day without even thinking about it now became a chore. I had to plan my shift. I had to make sure there was no one in front of me that could stop short and cause me to crash as I stepped on the clutch, took my left hand off the steering wheel and used both hands to shift.

Sometimes injuries give you clarity.
