Hello everyone,

I am a professional mariner who has practiced magic off and on as an amateur since I was in high school (even used to do birthday parties for kids).  I had given it up completely during college and now through motivation from my dad getting back into it, I've decided to re-spark my love for the art as well.  My other motivation to renew and improve my skills is my son and his recent fascination in the art.  I had shown him a few coin tricks just as a fun thing to do and he quickly started to recreate what I did (not successfully but still entertaining for me as a parent).  To encourage him, I purchase a small trick in which he can produce a flower from a vase; he has the basics of it down and loves performing it (not bad for a four year old).

Anyway, I am here to network with others who share this art and improve my skills.  Who knows, maybe I'll get good enough to achieve my childhood dream of being accepted into the Academy of Magical Arts.  I look forward to getting to know the active members of this forum.

Hey Sailor! Sorry, couldn't resist. Welcome, Dave, we are happy to have you here and look forward to getting to know you better. A four year old interested in magic? A prodigy, perhaps? Magicians of all skill levels hang out here and are always happy to listen, to engage, and to help when asked.

Out of curiosity, how did you learn about our little community?

Av,

I don't know if he is a prodigy but he does seem to enjoy performing his trick and has expressed interest in learning more.  Next time I'm in port I could upload a video that his mom sent me of him doing the trick.

I found this community after stumbling upon Magic Cafe by accident.  I attempted to join but as they refuse gmail accounts I opted to move on.  Motivated by my new find I decided to search for "forum for magicians"  which led me here.  After reading a variety of the threads and realizing how much there was to gain from socializing and networking with other magicians I decided to join.  As a teen I learned my magic on my own from videos and books and it is clear to me now that had I networked then that I would be significantly better than I am.

Welcome, Dave! It's exciting to think that we might be able to play a small part in helping reconnect you with the art. For someone who's interested and who keeps learning and asking the right questions, being accepted into the Academy of Magical Arts seems a highly achievable goal.
