Hi everyone!

My name is Evan and I am an engineering student in my final year at Purdue who has been doing magic for about 12 years. I have been involved with several other forums in the past, but I loved the atmosphere of this forum when I stumbled across it. I am excited to join a community that serious about helping each other, improving their performances, and elevating magic. I can't wait to contribute some of my own ideas and, more importantly, learn from the more experienced members here.

Because of the little amount of free time I have at school, I have not had much time to work on establishing my persona, honing the finer points of performance, etc. I am looking forward to having more time to focus on improving as a magician and eventually working some paid gigs on the side of my full-time engineering role.

I LOVE magic books and some of my favorite books are (although they tend to change over time): Apocalypse, Scripting Magic, Theater of the Mind, the Art of Astonishment, and Power Plays.

I mainly do close-up card magic, general close-up magic, and casual mentalism in impromptu or improvised situations, although my true passion is performing in platform or parlor settings.

Hope to get to know all of you soon! [smile]

It was nice talking to you, Evan. You're going to fit in nicely here!

The fact that Apocalypse was on the top of your list of favorite books, immediately won me over [smile]

See you around!

Rudy

Indeed welcome aboard! BTW I am honored to see that Power Plays is on your list of favorites!

I live in La Porte IN BTW. If you're in the neighborhood, let me know. It would be fun to jam! I'm starved for magic pals here.

My son is a Purdue grad also, as is one of our exchange students, Kelvin Chow. Kelvin was runner up in close up at FISM a few years back. He's fantastic.

Thank you all for the kind welcome!

Rudy: I really enjoyed talking to you today as well. It's clear that you have a great heart and vision for this community. Also, I think Apocalypse would be in my short list of items I would save in an emergency situation, they're just that good! I was fortunate (or spoiled!) to collect them when I was fairly young, but I could spend the rest of my life revisiting those books! Would love to trade favorite items back and forth sometime.

Mike: What an honor to have you welcome me, as well! I have Power Plays and Top Secret Stuff and they are just great. One day I'll get a hold of Powerful Magic! I had no idea that you were located in La Porte, I will certainly let you know if I am in the area. It would be amazing to be able to meet you and session sometime! And "Boiler Up!" to your son and Kelvin, what a small world.

Greetings Evan!

When I was still in college just a few years ago, I had the same issue with not having much time to practice. I only had a few opportunities to perform and practice!

Welcome to the forums and I hope that we can help you with any questions that you have! Or just to chit chat. [smile]

Hey Will, glad to hear I'm not the only one who struggles/has struggled with balancing those responsibilities...! Are you a professional magician now or still performing on the side when you have time away from your regular job?

I am not a professional....although I do have wonderful dreams and aspirations of becoming a professional one of these days. (Keyword is "dreams," hahaha).

I do a paid gig every now and then, but I've been so busy in recent years that I haven't performed "professionally" in a while. I perform occasionally for family, friends, and colleagues now.

College was a great place to perform. So many parties right? I used to get amazing reactions when I performed at frat parties.

I went to Purdue and my roommate was a maniac, but I'm assuming that you're not the same person. [wink]   Welcome!
