I'm sure many of you are already familiar with Jared Kopf.

I first saw him featured on the final U.S. season-one episode of Penn & Teller's Fool Us. His presentational style was captivating, the perfect marriage of confidence, wordplay, economy and comfort. Penn and Teller were noticeably impressed.

Last Thursday, I went to the Magic Castle with the sole intention of seeing Guy Hollingworth in live performance. Indeed, Mr. Hollingworth was terrific. He presented a newly developed stage act with absolutely flawless technique, subtle humor and an elegant tribute to the days of British music hall manipulation.

As usual, there were many top performers in attendance. Never shy about offering their critiques, Guy Hollingworth was universally praised for his super-human skills. The biggest buzz, however, was over Jared Kopf's act in the close-up room.

Over the last twenty years, I have seen many legends perform in that miniature theater (Martin Nash, Jerry Andrus and René Lavand, to name a few). Never before have I seen anyone own the room quite the way Jared Kopf did that evening.

While his effects were astonishing, it was showmanship that had the audience transfixed. He created rapt attention with a brilliant opening monologue and thereby set the stage... weaving a smoldering tension with pathos and understatement, a feat so rare in the art of magic.

Mr. Kopf's syntax is another rarity. Whether tightly scripted, or improvising without a net, his choice of words constructs a beautifully spell-binding atmosphere. With language alone, he boldly mixed classic magic with mentalism and made each phase matter... DEEPLY.

I encourage anyone devoted to refining their showmanship, anyone who dedicates their performance to the spectator's emotions and memory... and anyone who appreciates intelligent, articulate presentation, to seek out Jared Kopf.

Jared is a monster, especially with Bob White as his mentor.   He's one of those guys that studies a routine in and out and nails it.

I had the pleasure of seeing Jarad at Dan Block's Buffalo Get Together a few years ago. Great lecture. Recently I got to see him at Magic Chicago where he gave a wonderful performance and then a lecture. He has really come a long way. I agree with your characterization of Jared's presentation as intelligent and articulate. Definitely try to see his show if you have a chance.

What a nice surprise to see you've joined the forum Mike. Welcome! I'm a fan of your work... and a customer.

I had an opportunity to chat briefly with Jered after his late set. He is clearly a gentleman, well-rounded, with a wickedly dry sense of humor and an abiding love for the art of conjuring
