Fish, did you take down the vid? It was well done. I watched earlier, but when I popped on just now to comment the link was dead...

Well, that was a silly thing to do, now wasn't it?  Love Swain's stuff. That is a good quick effect. Its funny, knowing the trick and the method sometimes, when watching it performed I think to myself "How do they not figure it out"? I know that spectators look at cards very differently than we do, but it still amazes me what we can get away with.

Another James Swain fan here!

I met him at a book signing in Tempe Arizona a while back, signing a non-magic book he wrote. He gave a great gambling lecture and was a very nice guy to talk to afterwards. Seemed surprised to have someone to show up there with one of his magic books to sign.

Great fun, and all good stuff

Was the non-magic book one of his Tony Valentine series?

Yes it was.

I've bought a few of them 😉

not planned, but probably the same number as the number of magic books 😉

Magicfish — Just saw this clip and as usual, really enjoyed your performance/presentation! I think one of YOUR very best strengths is that you always seem to recognize (and do) strong effects that are sure to play well. I am also a James Swain fan (although I was not aware that he also authors non-magic books — I’ll be sure to check those out). Very nice effect and very nice performance — johnny

Hope I'm not stealing some of Kingman's thunder by saying yes it is in Miracles with Cards, and also on Volume 2 of the videos of the same name. If the videos have been re-released on DVD, mileage may vary. I converted mine to digital a few years ago.

Thanks Dave, I was looking at the DVDs on Penguin Magic, I don't see that trick on disc 2 but perhaps it has a different name?  The book does have "Card in the Cardbox: Invisible Shulien Revelation" on page 28, is the the trick demoed by magicfish?

I might just have to see what Santa brings me [smile]

Is it the trick demoed? -- I hadn't read the entire trick before posting, so I'd have to say it's not exactly the same trick. The one in the book uses a double cut-deeper force to pick the 2 cards. But the reveal appears to be similar.

In the video of the same name on the 2nd VHS tape, a single Cut Deeper force is used with the top 2 being the cards

I like the card selection that magicfish did, and I feel I'm seeing that used more lately than CutDeeper, but I could be wrong 😉

I did not see a demo but I now realize he has 2 closely named video series "Miracles with Cards" and "Miracles, the Magic of Jim Swain". From the descriptions I think it is on disc 2 of Miracles with cards.

I think I can reproduce a similar effect without this particular explanation but I have read some good things about him so I would like to see more. As I mentioned, hopefully Santa might bring me something more than a lump of coal.
