Hey Everyone, I have a script worked out for the Gemini Twins, but had a quick question. I think I am over thinking it (typical for myself..I can get into my head too much), but regarding having myself pick out the two cards for the participants. Has there been cases where the participants ask "Why can't I pick out the cards?" In my current script I just have a line where I say I need two participants, so while the group is picking out who the two will be, I'm just thumbing through the cards to pick out the two cards. Then I keep going. Assuming that if I don't care, they won't care, but haven't done this live yet. Thank you! GreenKnight

There are lots and lots of later variations on the Gemini Twins plot (John Bannon even has a couple of good ones on his "Move Zero" DVD). But going back to the basic, why don't you just force the two cards and eliminate your worrying about it. It then appears they are two random cards does it not? B y the way here's a link to a FREE Peter Duffie booklet which contains a nice variation on the Gemini Twins: http://www.lybrary.com/4-most-p-694665.html

I have done this trick a lot. It's a go to trick for me when I don't feel like doing any sleight of hand. I always let one of the participants shuffle, both if they care to. While they do so, I say, when you're done shuffling, I am going to pick a card for each of you, a card I feel matches your personality. Then when I get the deck back and select the cards, I make up a light and, if possible, humorous, 1 or 2 sentence "reading". Example, I selected this 7 for you, because you seem like a really lucky girl and 7 is a lucky number; I picked this Jack for you because you have a very colorful personality, etc, etc. No one has ever questioned me why they didn't get to pick the cards themselves. I've told them why I am picking out the 2 cards, so they are more interested in what I have to say about the card I picked for them. Then we quickly get on to the procedure and into the climax. I think Paul's idea is solid and would certainly prevent any questions, it's just far more work than I am willing to do for this nearly hands-off trick that can be done totally impromptu from a borrowed deck. I really love this trick! -Alan

Thank you both for your responses. I personally don't know how to force two cards so although I like the idea, it's beyond my capes. I can do a Criss-Cut force and Cut deeper force and that's about it. Most all my effects so far don't involve any forcing, but it is on my list to eventually learn to force that card! Alan, that's a good idea. So maybe if I just personalize a little, there's some meaning behind it. If it turns out to be a red and black, I could always too give one person a choice of red, then say, ok then, for contrast I'll give you black. Okay, I'll keep the tone light and breezy with some personalization. Thank you again both for your suggestions and thoughts! Green Knight

John Bannon also has a good variation in Dear Mr. Fantaasy, in which the spectator has also found the four aces.

Thanks Michael, I don't have any Bannon books yet. I just got into magic a couple years ago, and still smarting that I didn't get the Destination Zero book when it came out. One thing I can't stand about the magic community are the scarcity of books. I don't understand why people just don't use services like Lulu to print out books on demand. Now that book is out of print, and then it's just a waiting game etc. Thank you for the recommendation! GreenKnight

You can still get Dear Mr. Fantasy from his website for 25 smackers. That Lulu idea is great, an old gf of mine publishes books of poetry that way

The free Peter Duffie link I gave is also to a four of a kind version, which pre-dates JB.

No need to apologize, I just couldn't understand why more people were not taking advantage of a good free download

I'd highly recommend "Gemini Reflections" from John Carey's "24 Seven" volume 1. I'll make a demo of it for you but basically it eliminates the need for two "prediction" cards at the beginning. Instead, he uses "marker" cards (I just use the jokers). It's sort of a blend of Chad Long's "Shuffling Lesson" and "Gemini Twins" where (together) you've able to locate the four queens (or the four of a kind of your choosing) after a series of shuffles and cuts. It's really great! Rudy

Marlo's The Elusive Jacks is a 2 phase trick that incorporates a Gemini Twins ending. It can be found in Jon Racherbaumer's Kabbala Vol.1 No.5 - 1972 page 38. It is also republished in Jon's book The Legendary Kabbala (1998) , which is a compilation book of all the Kabbala issues. Best, Trini

John Gaustaferro has an excellent version using business cards with a blank deck ending. Killer. Mike

I remember seeing a video of a similar effect with 4 money notes used to mark the point dealing is stopped at in the end revealing the 4 aces. Does this ring any bells for anyone? I would love to find it again.

Thanks Chris W, I shall check that item out in Las Vegas Kardma. I think the video I saw was either a DVD or an online lecture at least a few years ago. I will trawl through any Dean Dill or Allan Ackerman videos also and see if it was them performing it.

Hiro Sakai has a version where 5 piles are dealt, each one capped with a bill or credit card. The revealed cards are a royal flush. He taught this at FFFF - I think it was 2007. I don't know if it is in print anywhere.

Eugene Burger has a wonderful version in his 1st Penguin Lecture. Also...I will say immodestly!... my "Five Roads to Vegas" is a pretty decent version! The spectators end up with a royal flush in spades (and you have predicted which spectator has selected which card), and the rest of the deck (as in John G's effect mentioned by Mike Powers) is blank. Lots of magic and fun in a routine based on the original Annemann effect (via Fulves).

The version with bills is Ackerman's. The bills seem a bit clumsy to me, though. John Gaustaferro's version, using business cards, is unique in that is has a "magician in trouble" feel and then ends with blanks with a reason for the blanks. Very cool indeed. It uses Ackerman's method, with credit of course. I think he has a newer version that doesn't require the "oops" as in Ackerman. M

The Gemini Twins placement is in my opinion one of the finest semi automatic concepts in card magic. I always think of it as a building block to creation. I’ve a stack of unpublished work using it on file. One day I must set those little birds free!😊

My favourite effect of the Gemini genre is a Paul Gordon routine titled 'Caused Effect' (originally from his 1999 book - 'Cause and Effect'). Just sitting here typing, I just can't believe it's 20 years since the book dropped through my letterbox. Wow......seriously, where does the time go folks. I particularly like the later version titled 'APEX' where you finish with a nice added kicker. I've just looked on Youtube to see if the routine was shown and quite spookily, it's literally just been made available again (after 10+ years) via a UK magic dealer! I have never used this company but they've got a good reputation.
I've been performing this trick for years, since Paul sold it direct. Believe me, I wouldn't bother carrying a gaffed deck unless it played so well commercially. Personally, I use a blank deck - it just fits my patter lines more meaningfully. EDIT: Just to add that even the basic Gemini Principle effect is superb; it's a particularly strong effect if you are handed a beat-up/borrowed deck.

There are several good versions in LAS VEGAS KARDMA besides Gem-money Cards. Van
