Hi guys. Hope you're all well. I hope this is in the right topic. Forgive me if not. I'm new.

I am trying to find out the name of a card trick. I own this card trick. Strange I know but what comes up on the internet isn't what the trick is.

You ask someone to name a card before you even pull out the deck. 3 of Hearts. I take the deck, open it up, take out the cards and fan them out showing all the cards face up with one card faced down. 3 of Hearts. You can put the card back in the deck and ask again. Jack of Spades. Same result, all cards face up but the named card is faced down. I have seen Blaine perform it but cannot remember where I saw it. I also cannot find the invoice from where I bought the trick from [frown]

I have searched and searched on the internet for the name but what comes up 'Upside down card trick' is not what comes back.

I'm not after the name of the one in which you ask them to pick a card from a fanned out deck, then have it turn round when looked for.

Thanks in advance

Phil

Phil, welcome. Before we tell you what it is called, do you perform the trick?

Hi magicfish

Yeah I do perform the trick although I am still perfecting my skills with it. Having to remember the pairing of the suit whilst subtracting the number and coming up with the card that is paired with the chosen card is getting the better of me sometimes and ill pull out a spade instead of a club every now and then lol.

Phil, look up Ultra Mental Deck. That's the proper name for the deck, although the trick itself goes by other names and there are various ways to structure the deck. It's a standard dealer item, and the trick has an interesting history.

Thanks Anthony

It is similar to that, but the deck I have isn't a blank deck. But as you say, I'm guessing there are a lot of variations to the trick

Ahh, I think you looked up the Mental Photography deck.  Similar name, different thing.  The ultra mental deck is the name for the gaffed deck.  The routine most popular with it is called the Invisible deck, which might be what you are looking for.

Thanks for the replies.

My deck doesn't go blank.

Someone thinks of a card, I open the deck a certain way as the spades and hearts are face up and the clubs and diamonds are face down or vice versa depending on the card chosen. Show them the deck is mixed and then their card is faced down.

The ones I have searched which have been suggested don't seem to be it.

But I really appreciate the help.
