Hello,

After spending quite some time following the posts here, I thought I'd finally register and try to join in some of the topics.  I've found the posts inspiring and the atmosphere very nice here.

I bought Henry Hay's "Amateur Magician's Handbook" when I was about 12, and a year later I was allowed to send away for Harry Lorayne's "The Magic Book" for my birthday. Loved both and was always busy with cards and coins until I was about 19 or so. I re-discovered the fun of it all three years ago, and now (at 46) am enjoying it more than ever.

Just as an amateur, but I enjoy doing a trick or two once in a while for others, mostly cards. My library is slowly growing, and love spending my free time on magic. Looking foreward to learning even more here!

----------Karel.

Karel,

A lot of us fall into the same, or similar, profile. You should feel right at home.

Welcome,

Welcome Karel!  This is a great place for people who love magic and don't like hostile bickering.   You'll find lots of vigourous discussion here and differences of opinion, but Rudy has created a community based on mutual respect, civility and collegiality.   People here share their knowledge with the goal of helping each other, not to build their own egos.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everybody. I've been busy collecting a number of your books, Mr. Lorayne - and go through them quite often, enjoy all the ones I have so far.

And Robin - I agree, and it's refreshing that differing opinions don't end up in arguments, as I've been noticing while reading the many posts here. It seems a very friendly forum, and I am looking forward to joining in more.

Welcome Karel.

Very similar to my story when I first posted here. This community has had an incredibly positive effect on my magic. You’re in the right spot for the good stuff.

Funny this thread was resurrected. Karel hasn't visited the site since last June. Wonder why?

Karel …

As has been said -- you'll find very familiar company in this crowd. I too am a confirmed amateur -- but one that's fully submerged in it 😉

Welcome aboard!

Thanks for the welcomes (even if it is a rather old thread).

And true, as Av mentioned - I haven't been on the forum for some time. Magic is still a big interest of mine, but kind of let it slip since the summer (various reasons - mostly busy with other things). I've been thinking more and more about it again the past few weeks/month, even spending time again with the cards. Perhaps with some free time coming up I will get back to doing it more often, like I used to- I do miss it.

Well, welcome back! Apparently Kozmo started something good here by ressurecting the thread.. (Not that starting something good is a first for Kozmo or anything, just saying.) Life often gets in the way of the things we'd prefer to be doing - I think we can all relate. Glad to hear from you again.

Welcome! Similar story to many, into it as a kid and then at some point, reintroduced as an adult. No reason to let anything like age stop you! It is a hobby that can span generations, no limits. This is a great place to be. Can try new things out, get useful feedback (the useful part is the most important). See others perform, get inspired, learn and laugh!
