Looking forward to your reviews.  Mike is an amazing thinker, but $70 for a couple of ebooks is making me wait.

Man I hope this is released as an actual book. I have all his Workers Books and they are excellent. Unfortunately, I won't be buying these , but if he ever decides to publish them, it will be an insta- purchase. Mike Close is pure gold.

I'm with Tom. Over the last year or so I have embraced magic ebooks, but purchased only those that a) I had long wanted, and b) were on sale.

Perhaps it is different on iPads and such, but the only way I can access magic ebooks on my Kindle is by transferring them as pdfs, and they aren't easy to read... Yet another reason to wait.

Michael send his e-files in both EPUB and PDF formats so they should work on both iPad and Kindle.  The beauty of Michaels e-books is that he imbeds video of "moves" within the book.

I printed and bound my copy of Workers, which was cheap at Kinkos.

EPUB files are not easily readable on Kindle either. Or at least they weren't when I tried a while back. Perhaps things have changed. I'll check.

I saw the topic and the number of replies and I thought "Wow, lots of people must be excited about MC's new books."

FWIW I will get these, but I need to make a dent in my "unread" pile first.

Wow. Lots of valuable insights and discussion. I’m part way through the Michael Close books (the original topic [wink]and the material is excellent. A nice mix of theory (without being too preachie) , some great takes on moves and some seriously good routines. So far I give it an A.
And to reflect the discussion, the embedded video really augments the learning experience.

Hi Robin. I just want to clarify (if I haven't already) that despite my aversion to e-books, I'm very happy that Mike Close is releasing new writings. His essays throughout the Workers Series are some of my favourite pieces in our literature and his effects are always designed with maximum mystery and entertainment.
Curiosity just may get the better of me here.

My friend, Jacob Grier and I had a magic session yesterday and he showed me some stuff from Michael's new book that fooled me. He highly recommended that I buy these books. Since I trust his judgment these will go on my list of books to buy.

He also mentioned a trick that he said (with a sneaky look in his eye) I might find interesting:

Jacob is a good guy, a great friend, and my favorite atheist 😉

1. I bought one of Close's early ebook efforts and it will no longer properly run on the  current software. All attempts to get a response have been total failure. Even if the issue were my ineptitude - frankly I doubt it, though - I should have received, at least, a minimal response.

Michael Close here: Contact me at mail@michaelclose.com with the name of the ebook that no longer works for you. We will make every attempt to rectify that situation.

Hi Michael,

It's an honor to have you here. Thanks for answering intenselymagic's post. He's a great guy and I'm sure he'll be glad to see that you responded.

I look forward to purchasing your books and hope that we'll see more of you around here. We have much to learn from you.

Take care,

Rudy

Damn. Just damn. That's good. Since we're in the Open Forum I will pass on a guess, but it's the moment that eludes. Else there is the other possibility I could double back to, but still, that's a nice trick. I knew what was coming and still I was baffled and amazed. I love that feeling - Good stuff!

Thanks for posting, Rudy.

I'll probably end up buying these even though I find the choice of media not to my liking (not sure about the syntax there).

I consider Michael Close to be one of the great magic thinkers of the past 50 years. His first set of DVDs contains more great advice than any others that come to mind. Spend just 10 minutes listening to the explanation of the Pothole trick and it becomes obvious.

My wife Lisa put in an extraordinary amount of time and effort to make reading the EPUB versions of The Paradigm Shift Volumes One and Two a seamless, comfortable experience. Here's something I wrote from the final chapter of Volume Two: "As I have written and stated many times before, I’m a book guy – but I’m not a purist or a snob about it. I’m as happy sitting in a chair reading a virtual book on my tablet as I am holding a tree-based book in my hands. In fact, at my age and with my eyesight, I often find an ebook to be a more comfortable read."

It's important to keep in mind that the decision to release my material in an ebook format was a deliberate, purposeful decision. I believe that the combination of text, photos, and video allows training that is second only to personal instruction - training that is simply not possible from a printed book. We could sell a printed book with an enclosed DVD of the videos, but that would require you to leave the book to watch the DVD on some other device. With The Paradigm Shift ebooks on your tablet, one double-click takes you to the videos, and hitting the back button brings you back into the book. It does not break the flow of learning. My suggestion is to print out whatever routine you're planning on learning so you can make notes and comments. This gives you best of all worlds. And if you want to print out and bind a copy so it feels more like a "book," the PDF was designed so you could do exactly that.

Hi Mike

Welcome to the Forum.  That's a great trick in the video clip posted above ... and a very enviable library behind you!

All the best

Robin

Thanks, Robin. You're mentioned in The Paradigm Shift Volume One, concerning your observation of why a drive to an unfamiliar location seems longer than the drive back.

The magic books I now own are about one-fifth of the collection I used to own. I just got sick and tired of boxing and moving them, so I thinned it down to a working library. I can't imagine how many thousands of books I've owned during my life.

Incidentally, on my Android tablet, I'm sure I have as many books as are shown in that video. Probably more.

Just so you fellas know, you can get a discount on this book if you share your purchase on Facebook.

Michael, if you read this, I’d love to tag you in my Facebook post, but would like to tag you.
Would you be willing to add me as a “friend” so that I can do that?

Intensely, I had an issue with one of Mike's earlier releases and after a couple of emails he got me up and running.  Get in touch with him.

Michael Close posted this and asked people to share it with any magic authors, publishers etc who have been affected by piracy.  I know that several TMFers fit this category.

As anyone who knows Mike Close knows, his material is always more than first-rate, more than platinum and invaluable and timeless. I know this first hand. Mike has fooled me WITH MY OWN TRICKS on more than one occasion. He makes a habit of this. He adds some wrinkle, improves something, takes something beyond where I had it and in the result he fools me. He's been fooling me since I first met him. You can't have a better magic friend.

Mike has just published Paradigm Shift, Volumes 1 and 2, as e-books. There are here:

https://www.michaelclose.com/collections/products-by-michael-close

These are fantastic productions in every way. Plus he has included several versions of some of my tricks, the ones he fooled me with.

If you do magic, you need these books--even if you never perform a single effect, you will learn a lot from the wisdom and advice on every page.
