Very nice Rudy! (and John). John has a ton of credits on this one. The one that came to my mind was Ackerman's "Finally Unassembled." This one is especially convincing too.. Mike

Nice! I should note that Rudy's tweaked a thing or two to make this more impromptu than the original (for which the index cover strategy isn't employed)... and I really dig his option. As Anthony's neurons indicate, the routine is methodologically derivative... but the primary objective was simply to construct something as lean as possible with no packet-to-packet contact. Ego fed and put to bed. Oh... almost forgot, Rudy... second pronunciation!

This has shades of (although not exactly) Racherbaumer's "Waylaid Assembly", which was inspired by Marlo's "Delayed Ace Assembly". Did either of those specifically influence this?

To be completely honest, I couldn't tell you! It's been many years since the routine was constructed. When I'm creating, I typically have little bits and pieces of things - ideas I've picked up over the course of time - buzzing around my gray matter. Where those things originally came from can be perplexing if the source material itself is highly derivative (i.e., if a large number of variations have seen print). Such is the case with the backfire assembly, and why I included a rather long list of "antecedents" in the book. Folks interested in this plot should check out Denis Behr's incredible resources (Conjuring Archive and Conjuring Credits). They'll lead you in every conceivable direction!
