I recently purchased a streaming video of some effects from Rafael Benatar.

While I wasn't completely thrilled with the effects taught, I don't regret the purchase.

One of the tricks has a Dr. Rhine, ESP theme that requires the spectator to remember the order of three cards (imagine asking a not-so-bright spectator to do that) and has a presentation that is a bit too long for my personal preference.

The other one is basically his version of Brother Hamman's "Twins". It's good, but again...it just doesn't fit my style.

But the thing that stood out to me about this video was Rafael's thoughts on handling doubles and some principles that will go along way in making your card magic look more natural.

His "Slippery Double" has become the lift that I use now. It's incredibly disarming.
He spends some time talking about the "nail and edge" principle that helps cards stay together by preventing friction from separating the cards.

Just purchased it. I agree that the slippery double is super cool. Now I just need to learn to do it as well as you[wink].

Thanks for the tip.

Ken, I know that you will master this move. You have already proven to me that you are very committed to the art of magic. Have fun!

Nice one.

A "slippery" double that really fooled me the first time I saw it live is Lee Asher's Silver Surfer. I could not find a demo by Lee, but here's a demo by Dave (or Dan):

If you play with Rafael's "The Cards of My Friends," you will find an incredible opener.

I first met Rafael Benetar when he lectured for us at Ring 244 last year. I was very impressed with a few of his routines, and immediately added Pages to my act. It's in his booklet called, "Parlour Magic" with two other routines. And I agree, The Favorite Cards of My Friends is a terrific opener that I should work up in the near future.

Loving the look of the slippery double! So many possibilities!

Rudy, Is it possible to land the double on the outstretched palm of a spectator?

AND... thank you Claudio for turning me on to Lee Asher's Ambitious Explosion from Dan and Dave, 3 gorgeous moves taught within the context of a very visual four-ace production!

The move-monkey on my back has been fed today.

Hi Frederick, Unfortunately the slippery double will split when it hits any friction.

If you ever want to have a little Skype session, let me know and I'll show you a couple of things that I do with doubles.
