Re my upload of Cheeky Acaan (which I use a lot as did JC Wagner and other workers.)

I'm not throwing my toys out of the pram due to criticism. I'm out of here due to rudeness by a few members. So far, I've enjoyed interacting, giving tips, contributing to the HaLo Project etc. But, life's too darn short to hang around negativity and rudeness.

Very sad 😔 as I didn't expect it of this forum.

Hi Paul,

I’m so sorry about the negativity that you experienced. I deleted the offending comment and was equally surprised by the tone and spirit in which it posted. I assure you that I respect and admire you greatly and will continue to support both you and your magic whether you choose to remain with us.

It’s difficult for me and and our moderators to keep an eye on every comment that is posted. I hope that you trust me enough to know that I’m committed to maintaining a friendly and respectful environment at the Magician’s Forum. I would hate for you to let one person, who failed to exemplify the vision of our community, to prevent you from providing us with your hard earned wisdom and knowledge.

You’re one of the good guys and I count you as a friend.

I hope that you’ll accept my apology on behalf of the forum and stick around.

You’re a valuable member of this community.

Your friend,

Rudy

Paul,

Don't go. But if you do if like to thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for Worker Supreme. That one routine has been a game changer in my strolling and festival sets. I've gotten so many surprised looks and magical "no ways." It's a stunner and more importantly, a practical worker.

YOU are the man, Paul, YOU are the man!!!

Sincerely,
EvilDan.

Paul, I can't say I blame you for reacting to the rudeness of some members by removing yourself from the source. Please do not mistake the behavior of a few for the entire forum. I think we are better than our individual parts. I offered at least one of the rude posters on the topic the opportunity to amend or delete their comments. Perhaps I should have deleted them on the spot, and in the future that's what I am going to do. Mea culpa and lesson learned.

I am with Dan. I hope you choose to stay, or at least return. Frankly I wasn't awfully aware of your work until "meeting" you here and have since purchased two of your books and The Gordon Diary. I enjoy your thinking and the construction of your tricks and routines, and I am grateful for your contributions to our art.

Regards,

Av

I am very sorry if my post was taken as rude.  I did state that I am a fan of yours and that hasn't changed.  I simply stated that I did not care for the specific effect you posted.  And I gave my reasons why.  I am unsure why that is considered rude.  But I am sorry if I offended that was not the intent.

Bmat I agree about your post. I guess it comes down to old joke of the bus driver getting in trouble for calling a lady's son ugly. His comment was that since they were delayed in getting where they were going, he offered her "a banana for her monkey".

I've never invented a magic effect, but I can certainly understand wanting to protect your 'baby'.

It's so hard in forums and social media where you can't see someone's face and expressions and sometimes things are taken sideways.

I too hope Paul will relent and return.

I don’t believe that you were being rude, Bmat.

I want this forum to be a place where we can offer each other friendly, respectful, honest and constructive criticism. I truly believe that you and I were trying to do that. I can tell you all that I worded my comments very carefully to ensure that Paul knew that I respect and admire him, before mentioning my thoughts on his effect.

It was another one of our members who made a comment that wasn’t in keeping with the spirit of our community.

🤦‍♂️

Paul, if you’re reading this, know that one person who made one mean spirited comment, doesn’t represent the heart of this forum. I believe that our community is one of the friendliest on the Internet. I hope you’ll stay with us.

Rudy

Thank you ALL for the very kind words. It really is appreciated. It's not that I need my ego stroked (I'm not like that), but as "Desiderata" says, "Avoid loud and aggressive people as they are vexatious to the spirit. I enjoy being here and I'd certainly never trash another's work, ideas and thoughts...like the unpleasant fella thought he would do to me. X Paul

Hi Paul, I don’t believe that you’re trying to have your ego stroked. With that said, I hope that you see that you are respected and admired by the members of our forum :)

Hi Paul,

I would not make a decision to leave TMF based on the remarks of one person. I am new here, but it is obvious that there are many members that hold you in high regard. I agree with all that Rudy has said about you and what this forum is all about.

Health Warning: Long Post. Hopefully not offensive.

Interesting.

We seem to have a "discussion" about a thread that no longer exists. If it does I can’t find it. But then I have no claims to infallibility. If it has in fact been removed in its entirety, the big question for me now is: Why? And there are a few subsidiary questions.

If the thread I can’t find is the thread I think it is and on which I posted the first comment following Paul’s, I am forced to ask what the heck was up with MY post. I thought it was complimentary; perhaps it wasn’t.

At my last viewing, yesterday, there were several posts, all of which I thought were complimentary. Bmat offered a well worded, considered, point of view, which I didn’t entirely disagree with, but neither entirely agreed with. What I saw was Paul delivering a typically smooth performance of a quick trick. Not a "major" offering in the never-ending flow of "ultimate" ACAAN, but solid enough. I’ve created a few of those myself over the years. They fit certain occasions.

But there we are, all posts seem to have vanished.

Now then.

Regarding Anthony’s comment about trust. All well and good, but it makes me feel that the forum members who care about the place can’t be trusted to read and judge the alleged offending piece. And, without descending into a slanging match, give the offender a chorus of Yah-Boo-Sucks. Too quick on the draw is my feeling.

Incidentally, this ramble, up to here was composed, prior to the most recent posts by Dave Campbell and Rudy, who as ever is measured and well considered as always.

I’m not sure I feel grossly offended by this censorship of me and others who said good things (I’m not) but to say I’m a bit miffed is an understatement. And bewildered by what I see as misjudgement.

Like everyone else I wish Paul would stick around. Just because there are some slurry-balls drifting throughout Magic with nothing to say about anything, why penalise everybody? So, come on, Paul. You’re bigger and better than that.

Regarding "slurry-balls," I’m forced to use a vague descriptive adjective, because I have no idea what was said, who the offender is, whether he/she is a new member, a regular or someone I’ve seen on other forums. Could even by some one I’ve met.

And here we are.

Paul, I did not see the post(s) that upset you so I can't really comment on those.

Rudy created this site and it continues to evolve into one of the most comfortable places for magicians of all levels to ask questions, post ideas, ask for help, participate in discussions, and on occasion, have disagreements. Personally, I enjoy that hobbyists like myself and more serious performers can interact with professionals like yourself and the many others that participate here.

One of the best things about this forum is that it is not overly moderated, we assume members understand mature responsible behavior without having an extensive list of rules or having moderators unilaterally editting/deleting posts. The majority of the interactions here are respectful but occasionally if a post is out of line, given the opportunity, I believe the moderators will address the issue.

While "Desiderata" says, "Avoid loud and aggressive people as they are vexatious to the spirit." I would also remind you you that Winston Churchill said, "Kites rise against the wind, not with it."

Like others have posted, I hope you don't leave or make judgments about the whole forum and its members based some negative comments, given your background I am sure the majority of members here enjoy your contributions but in the end you must do what makes you comfortable.

Wayne

Hi Paul. You and I haven’t met yet but I think you know I am a fan of your work. Nocturnal Creations and Protean Card Magic are two of my favourites and I’m currently loving Quidnunc. I perform Gr(eight) and your handling of Estimation Aces and Chamelion Card quite often. It is truly a pleasure to have you here and on behalf of Rudy Tinoco I can assure you that The Magicians Forum is Paul Gordon friendly.
We very much appreciate you sharing your creations with us.
Sincerely,

Paul

Thank you for the marvellous lecture you did. I use Easy Cut Aces often to floored jaws alround.

Also thank you for your marvellous booklet 'Explorations'.

If you choose not to stick around I wish you all the very best for the future.

Best

I hope you decide to stay, Paul.  The entertainment value in my magic has taken giant steps forward since I began studying your work a few years ago.  Thank you for sharing.

All the best,

Paul, it would be great if you'd give us another try.  We're doing our best to not let this be like another forum, which has let trolls and meanness chase away performers and creators.

Agree with everyone else. You have many fans here and it would be a shame if you leave. Think it over but do come back.
