I created a little 10 question checkbox survey regarding your preferences about books.

It only takes a minute to check ten boxes.

Help the research here: LINK TO SURVEY

Thanks!

I'll definitely report survey results after some time goes by. I posted the link on Magic Cafe, TSD, here and The Magic Pebble. I hope to get several dozen or more responses. It only takes a minute.

Answered already.

Many times I don't care about endorsements but about the contents of a book (a description of the effects would be more useful). Many times I get a book just for one effect and if I really like that effect, then my purchase was worth it, even if I don't learn any other effect.

Sometimes just a name could let you know the principle or what the effect is about. An example, if an effect has "SI" in its name, then I know it has to do with "Si Stebbins." That is why I say the contents could be useful but a description of the effects could be even more useful than just the name.

Nowadays "word of mouth" is not just by speaking to other magicians but forums provide that information (e.g. we learned about Harry's new book here first). Magazine ads also help.

I checked the survey this AM. There are around 100 responses already. I thought 50 would give some valid insights. I'll wait a few more days and then post a summary of the results. I think they are very interesting so far. I suspect that, given there are already 100 votes, the new ones will follow the same general pattern.

I'll make a note to post the results this weekend.

Thanks for taking time to take the little survey!

I'll be interested to see the results.  Once completed I realized I don't listen to "big name" endorsements or reviews.....

Books are getting expensive So Sato card magic 60 dollars I like 3 maybe 4 tricks in that I liked. Johnny Thompson 2 Volume set 300.00 dollars, and I'm still looking for an effect in those I want to learn. And now people like Matt Mello selling a one trick book for 75.00 dollars. I wish magic books would come out on kindle. The Johnny Thompson set for 9.95 be great for me as most books I only want the info inside and don't care about having the hardback book so much. If I had Tellers money however I would build a libary like his. But now I have to be carefull of how I spend money on my books.
