I am looking for a good closer routine for a show doing mostly mentalism & magic magic. You don't have be a mentalist to respond to this post...I am at a toss-up with Becker's Casino Royal ( yes I have 50 to 60 real casino chips ) and John Morgan's The Birthday Book with the Fortune Tellers Book Of Days.

I am also thinking about doing an ungimmicked book test using paperback books ( see Peek Performances ) but I am afraid of not remembering the chosen word when the heat is on.

What would you suggest?

Best,

Of the two you mentioned, which one gets your strongest reaction?

The Becker routine...it's more visual, but I am looking for something that is super clean and that is over-the-top for a 25 minute set.

I've also thought about LUNA which is great but requires a lot of patter and story backdrop.

Anything different I would be interested in.

You might consider Confabulation by Alan Shaxon. Watch the Youtube video from the 40 second mark onwards,

Mac,

That's almost like Casino Royal..the Becker routine. There is something about making 3 predictions in a row, that is impressive to the spectators.

Thanks for the tip!

Rick

Alan Shaxon also has a great 'sealed prediction' routine where an audience member holds a large clear Mason jar throughout the performance.  At the end, the sealed jar is shown to contain a prediction that ties to three very specific events earlier in the show.  The prediction is in a metal capsule wrapped in a long long ribbon inside the jar - unwinding the ribbon is very visual and the perfect prediction is stunning.

Along the lines of Confabulation, you can ask Dan Garrett if he still has any copies of Anthony Lindan's "Fortune and Fate".  In this routine the volunteer is invited to play on a game show.  Three folded business cards are placed on the table, described as Door 1, Door 2 and Door 3.  Then and only then does the volunteer choose their prize : a vacation locale, a mode of transport, and an amount of spending cash - all completely free choices.  The volunteer chooses Door 1, Door 2 or Door 3.  The other two doors (business cards) are shown to have goofy prizes written on their backs.  The volunteer's chosen door has her exact chosen prize written on it!

I love this version because the prediction is in plain view throughout, but is only revealed to be a prediction at the very end.

I close my shows with Social Prediction by Debjit Magic. The whole audience gets involved and I also get a lot of free likes on Facebook [wink]

For a large group, I'll toot my own horn - Heisting Histed Heisted. The 3.0 version will appear in my upcoming book. Looks like real mind reading IMHO.

Just pulled my edition of "Power Plays" off the shelf and had a look at HHH. I'll look forward to HHH 3.0 although I can only imagine how you can improve on what you already came up with. Excellent!

When is the new book due to publish?

Also worth also noting for those that have Apocalypse, the "Fortune & Fate" routine is in "Apocalypse". It's titled "Quizmaster" and can be found in Volume 12/No. 10 - Oct. 1989 (pgs: 1693-1695, Third "Apocalypse" book).

Hi mac1054 - TESSERACT should be out some time in April, assuming no curve balls get thrown i.e. printing problems etc.

I'm really excited about the new book! I have to wait a bit to follow Murphy's lead since they have an exclusive on the book.

Stay tuned!

Roll back a few pages to PM Plus - quite a trick.

TESSERACT is up an running! Murphy's has supplied the dealers. The book was released for shipping on June 10th. Any help getting some "buzz" going would be greatly appreciated.

Mike P’s horn toot is a good one!
I’d also like to recommend my (L)Ego Trip from my new book INFLUENCE-ENZA.
It’s a drop the mic routine using Legos for mind reading!
It’s available now at Penguin and Big Blind Media or you can order it directly through me for a special TMF discount. ($15 via PayPal to mbreggar@gmail.com)
Check out the full description in another thread here in TMF

Without context, this is an impossible question to answer.

How do you present yourself? Real? Or psychologically?

What other effects do you have in your program and how are they structured to flow?

How do you begin your act? As the show should come, full circle.

How long does the act run and how many effects do you want to do?

If I knew more about your act, I might be able to help? But without context, my suggestions would be useless.
