I want to make a magic resume video for party gigs. How is it done? My daughter thinks if I show a magic trick it's a show but if they watch it again its a lesson.

Anyone have an extra copy of the Magictales book 1 By Leslie Melville?

In my opinion, you should edit together a collage of short clips of yourself performing in live situations (NOT entire routines), with every clip emphasizing how much fun the audience is having.

Arthur nailed it.

The only thing I'd add is that it's a good idea to give it a professional feel. Be careful not to go overboard on effects etc.

Great! Thanks. I guess I'll be asking my family to do shows at their house.

Here’s an example that shows you don’t necessarily need video throughout.  Great still pictures also work.  My wife Leslie and I composed, recorded & produced the theme song.  Note that Dynamike’s website info and phone number are visible throughout.

Hi, Mom's are saying they don't want their kids video taped because of the creeps out in the world. I could tell them I'm just videotaping myself. What do you think?

Yes, Moms refusing to let their kids be used in videos or photographs is a problem you’re going to run into more and more in today’s world of internet predators.  Got no solution for that.  Keep asking, and maybe eventually some clients will consent if you explain that it’s purely for promotional purposes.  But DO NOT use their children's images without permission.

If you’re really stuck for ideas, you could resort to stock photographs of kids having fun, interspersed with photos of yourself in action.

Also, try asking family.  If you could get a couple of photos of yourself and a young niece or nephew or a grandchild, in a great pose right at the moment “the magic happens”, that would be really good.

Thanks Art. I figured I might have to pay for some actors to watch me. But you might have better ideas.

Here’s another example with no video footage, but using only still photographs.  Totally different style of music.

Again, theme song music, lyrics, etc. by my wife Leslie and me.

P.S.  For performers who have been asking:  We quit doing musical scores and theme songs for magicians about two years ago.  Still plan to release a few more royalty-free music CDs in the future.  But not accepting any more custom music projects.  (Except for corporate).
