I'm Randy, just turned 45 and I'm from the Netherlands. I've been interested in magic since I was a kid. However where I lived there was a lack of resources to learn more and I got stuck. But everytime the fire lit again till I got stuck again. About 2,5 years I was thinking about how I would kill my time commuting to work every day and I decided to bring my cards to put in my 10.000 hours into some for me difficult sleights like DPS, Clip Shift and strike locked doubles. I then thought I needed to be good at these to improve my magic.

Then I participated in Aaron Fishers Miracle Man Method (3M) training. Thats where I started to grasp a bit more about all the layers in magic. I became a member of the Conjuror Community and Joined the local Magic Club. Currently I spend most of my spare time on magic.

I still consider myself a beginner and I hope to learn a lot of new insights and maybe help out someone....

Regards,

Randy

Welcome! This is an awesome community and I'm sure you'll both learn as well as contribute.

I can't help but comment though on something you said. You mentioned some formidable sleights and thinking you needed them. I hope, as you've progressed, that you now understand that difficult sleights are never required. Many, many performers are successful while never engaging in taxing manipulation.

What is required is "want to" and the ability to entertain.

Maybe you can comment on Fisher's program. I saw he was offering it at a discount recently. How has it impacted you?

Be on the lookout for the Saturday Sessions. They are fun and a great way to meet a lot of folks. You needn't feel any pressure to perform, but if you do, you'll get lots of support and feedback.

verwelkoming to the forum!!

We hope you haven’t damaged your knuckles learning those slights! There are so many great magicians and great ideas on this site it is hard to know where to begin, so just jump in anywhere. And be sure to participate.

Our fearless leader, Rudy, has founded this forum to be quite a democratic place where we all learn from each other and have a great time along the way. And be sure to take advantage of our online sessions. There is nothing like it in the web. I’m old enough to remember Saturday’s at the local magic shop where young magicians could gather with, learn and session with great magicians. Our sessions (about once a month) replicate this experience.

Have fun!

Welcome aboard Randy...

There are a couple fugitives here from Aaron's Conjuring Community, but I never did the 3M thing.

Commuting by train (I guess) and working with sleights -- wow-- great use of time 😉

Daag, Randy!  When I was a child our family spent three years living in Scheveningen.  I saw my first professional magician there at a classmate's birthday party, and never forgot the experience.

Since then, I've been fortunate to travel to Holland (mainly Amsterdam) a few times.

Arthur
