Hi Everyone,

I got to spend some time with Harry Lorayne this morning. He shared an interesting story about a very strange magic show where someone tried to recreate the crucifixion of Jesus.

This is part of a longer interview with Harry where we talk about his Jewish faith as well as his thoughts on God and the afterlife.

To see this and many other interviews with Harry, subscribe to Reel Magic Magazine for my series of teaching videos that I call "Apocalypse Now". http://www.reelmagicmagazine.com

Thanks!

Rudy

What a story! I guess that's one way to make your act memorable 😃

The nearest I can recall such a bizarre act was a cartoon: does anyone remember a Bugs Bunny associated cartoon where a wolf goes to a talent scout to show him his  extraordinarily dangerous acts , only to finish with pouring gas over himself and setting himself alight? The agent says something like "That's amazing - I'll book you!". The wolf replies, "The only problem is, I can only do it once", as his cartoon 'angel' ascends! I was a kid - it traumatized me then. But Harry's story reminds me that this world has bizarre - real - people who have bizarre ideas on 'entertainment', be it performers or audiences.

Difference is - the thing I witnessed wasn't, so far as I could tell, a "trick."   That was decades ago - who knows? - perhaps if I witnessed it now I'd see a "trick."

Doug Edwards shared this bit of history with me.

“That really did occur...It was at an Abbott's Get-Together in Colon Michigan...Percy Abbott booked it thinking it was some type of an Illusion act and didn't know it was done for real...Well, he certainly found out at the end!”

Wild!!

I had no doubts that your story was true, Harry. Doug was just assuring you that you didn’t just dream it up as you jokingly stated in the video.

You’ve lived quite a life, Harry!

Yes; I'm glad he did. Honestly, I've been around so long, and lived through so many things, that occasionally I'm not sure if it really happened or if it's just a figment of my imagination, something I dreamed.

Here are a few more details from Doug...

"The year it took place at Abbott's was 1955 and the performer was Chami Kahn from Caracas Venezuela...It's mentioned in the Percy Abbott book recently published...I have a playing card Chami signed somewhere in the house..."

I actually found an article about it with a photo of Chami on the cross!
