After mentioning this Cameron Francis trick earlier in the week I received several emails and PMs. I learned the trick from Cameron's Penguin Live lecture, but it is available from several sources, one being Penguin Magic where the download is currently being offered for free. You just can't go wrong! In the meantime, here's my take on the trick, along with some commentary.

Thanks for sharing Anthony! My kind of effect for sure...and I'm not surprised that your getting solid reactions. I have always felt 8 card brainwave gets results disproportional to the effort involved, but man it's been a workhorse at almost every gig I do! Coat looks like it might fit well into my "go to" effects in the future!

As an added Cameron Francis plug, I just realized I had ordered his "Deceit Treat" many moons ago and never bothered to learn it. Thanks to your post I watched the download and have another easy to do card effect that passed the wife test...

Anthony -- I just saw this and wanted to compliment you on a beautiful presentation for a very cool trick -- I particularly enjoyed your relaxed style!  COAT reminds me of another similar routine (I think!) by Andrew Musgrave which was published in one of the earlier Genii magazines for 2018 -- if you are a subscriber, you might want to track it down and look it up.  Business card effects are always a great way to advertise, and if the cards are associated with a memorable effect, that makes it all the better.  Great job and thanks for calling it to our attention on TMF! -- johnny

Excellent, Anthony! I really like you're presentation.

I just downloaded the free instructional video from Penguin. Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks Anthony, nice job. I downloaded the video from Penguin and have been searching for Max Maven's "Drawing Conclusions". I was wondering if anyone has seen it anywhere? It was originally in Richard's Almanac, but that is as far as I get.  Thanks

Don

Thanks for all the kind words. Hope y'all get similar reactions with it.

Don, if you have The Collected Almanac, Drawing Conclusions is at p. 189. Not sure if it's been published elsewhere.

I know the feeling! I think you will be happy with The Collected Almanac. There's so much great material between the covers, lots of which most magicians have long forgotten, so it's almost like traveling to an alternate dimension with access to a secret cache of magic!

This IS nice, I made it up when Big Blind Media offered it as a free download advertising one of Cameron's DVD's a year or so ago. Good one for the wallet. Well done Anthony. Now I need to find where I put it :0

It's often very tough to predict which effects audiences will love!  What was it about this effect that go such a good reaction?  Are they fooled by the method or they just like the story or what?

A good question, and one I cannot readily answer. People are amazed at the revelation itself, but then floored after I show the four "letters." Sometimes it takes a moment for it to set in, but when it does, there is generally a pregnant pause before they react verbally. Like B'Wave, it's just one of those tricks that provide maximum effect for minimal effort. Well, sleight-wise, that is.
