I've heard from a few people (including Michael Vincent) that this book is a great book. Would anybody here recommend it? Thinking about making a purchase.

It is on sale on Vanishing Inc., for something like $22.76 at this time.  I'd say it is more than worth it.

In addition to testimonials, one of the ways I judge a book's value is how many times it is mentioned within other texts.  This one is mentioned a lot.

Alright Ray. Thanks.

That's a good idea by the way.

As with everything it's personal taste. I've always liked the Endfield books.

Here's a bit more information:

I have this book in my collection.

Definitely worth the money 😉 good amount of sleights and a lot of great tricks in there 😉

If you have the money and want to buy go for it you won't regret it.

regards

Michael Vincent talks about it in this video at around 25 mins and 20 sec mark. In fact this is a great video to watch as he talks about many other books that have shaped his magic. Well worth a look.

Cy Endfield was a director, a film maker. I remember reading and learning from the books and the best thing about the books is that each trick is a story, an adventure, and a piece of film. These are excellent books, when they originally came out, there were 3 smaller books. Great stuff.

Not to drift from the current topic but I have another question.

Looking to buy Maximum Entertainment by Ken Weber. Not sure if I want to get the original or 2.0

On eBay there is an original copy that is starting at ten bucks. Should I just get that one or should I just buy 2.0 for $40?

Personally I would get 2.0, this would help support Ken Weber and is a bit more updated from what I've heard. But I'm sure you won't go wrong with either one

Back to the original question by Josh:

I have the original three-book set of Cy Enfield’s Entertaining Card Magic, and they are fabulous!  Great instructions, effects & routining, with excellent black & white photographs wherever required.  Detailed explanations of several sleights, too.  Extra bonus is that these were written by Lewis Ganson.

If you can get a book with the contents of all three volumes for only $22.76, buy it!

Arthur

That seems to be the general consensus.

Thanks Arthur. Seems that you hold them in VERY high regard.

Awesome.

Don’t mind me, Josh … I’m a nut for quality older publications.

I think the older stuff (for the most part) is better anyway. Especially Vernon and Marlo.
