The only version of OOTW that I know & do is U F Grant's version of this famed effect which can be seen on Jon Tremaine's Mentalism video.

The basic effect is that the magician fans the deck toward himself and asks the spectator if the cards he holds are red or black. Lots of dealing here to get into position to do OOTW.

I like to do the effect, without all the dealing and I know there are many versions of OOTW. So what versions of this trick can you recommend without all the dealing?

Also I would like to do Ortiz's Vegas Shuffle AFTER OOTW.

Thanks

Rick,

Hi Rick! So good to see you back!!

There's a great thread where many variations are mentioned ( https://www.themagiciansforum.com/post?id=10518809 [wink]

If you're looking for a version that cuts down on the dealing, I would recommend a version that is taught by Stephen Leathwaite on his Spiral Principle DVD. It was an approach that I haven't seen before that uses two spectators who take turns dealing cards into two piles on the table. One is made up of cards that they want and the other are their discards.

Michael Breggar said that Stephen's version owed a lot to John Kennedy who published his method in Genii back in 1989.

I love John Bannon's take called Mundo from Mentalissimo. Just about a dozen cards, quick and simple to do. It's also on Fire When Ready.

There is a short version with about 15 cards of each colour in Ryan Schlutz's download "Untouchables". And it's even faster than a regular OOTW because two spectators deal the cards.

If you check my May 07 post on the thread linked by Rudy (actually two posts, since I edited the second) …

https://www.themagiciansforum.com/post/variations-of-out-of-this-world-10518809

… you’ll see how I limit the number of cards dealt, and end up after the black/red separation revelation, by showing that the rest of the deck is still mixed (having originally been shuffled by the spectator).

I also don't like the procedure of going through a full deck, especially if the spectator is helping with dealing the cards.  That can become slow.

The "Out of This..." that I perform which typically uses 16 to about 24 cards.  However, when I use this as a set up for Aronson - Random Sample Shuffle-Bored, I choose the specific cards that I would need.  All while talking with the spectators.  Combined or just stand alone, it definitely feels to flow better when using fewer cards.  It still gets the point across that the red and black cards have separated.
