Sitting in Panera and playing with cards and an employee asks me to do a card trick, he likes magic. So i had him take a card and i did my good ol' transposition followed by the Williamson 51 cards to pocket. When i revealed his card (it would take too long to explain the trick) i was stunned to see he had selected the blank card that phoenix decks come with.  And after i was done he wanted to see the deck, which i gave him.

I could tell by the bored look on his face that it did not go over well. Which is to say---he thought it was a trick deck.

I went on with it as though he taken any card.

Could i have saved it somehow?

I'm curious as to why the spectator didn't react initially when he selected the card and saw that it was blank.  When I'm doing pick a card tricks I make sure that if there are gaffs in the deck I know where they are and make sure they can't select them.  I do the same thing if I have jokers, however I rarely keep those in the deck.  For some reason revealing the selection to be a joker doesn't have the same impact as a regular card.

That's a tough spot to be in to try to salvage something.  Maybe you could've gotten away with saying that it was a cut card similar to the ones they use in the casinos.

Holy Crap! I only give out one autograph per month and YOU took the Autograph Card!
There's only one of these in the deck so this must be your lucky day!

Then sign the card and walk away.

P.S. This could have been avoided by following my advice: ALWAYS PEEK THE SELECTION!

Could have pretended it was a shy card, did not want to show its face. You make it show, by exchanging for top card, go into abbreviated ambitious card routine and end it by changing back to blank card so it can rest.
Just a thought. Doubt I would have thought of it in your situation though. Easy to look back and come up with some thing. [smile]

Thanks, you all. I've been thinking about it, and i could have said that out of all the cards he picked the only one from another dimension, something like that. It was a free choice, anyway.
