While I don't perform any tricks that use gaffs yet, I've definitely read some tricks where I wished I had the gaff card that was used in the explanation.  I've seen gaff decks online that come with double backers, double facers, back/blank cards, double blank cards, short cards, short corner cards, etc.  I've also seen gaff decks that had gaff cards that seem pretty useless or usable for only one particular trick.  I've found that Bicycle used to make a deck of gaff cards but apparently stopped making them.  And I know most of my custom decks come with double backers, a duplicate card, or a card with a reveal on them.  As a result, I'm curious if anyone has any recommendations on a gaff deck of playing cards that contains the most useful gaff cards?  As mentioned above, I don't have any specific tricks as of yet that require gaff cards, but I'm just looking to have them handy in case I ever need them.

Hi there! You can always buy decks of double backers and blank facers or blank backers, and create your own tricks. About 30 years ago I bought an assorted deck, with a few of each of those cards (and some others). I don't know if they still make them (I think it was hand made by the shop where I bought it). Now I buy those complete decks of special cards (all double facers, all double backers, etc.) and use them as I need them.

My suggestion is if you don't want to buy those complete decks, look for an assorted deck. Or get together with a friend and buy some of those decks and make your own assorted decks and use them as needed.

And I always wanted to get this other deck but they are out of stock and I think they don't make them anymore...

Thanks luigimar.  I think I'm leaning more towards an assorted deck for now since I don't know which gaffs will come in handy.  I've seen some on ebay but was hoping for some solid recommendations on assorted gaff decks.  Like you mention, some of the assorted decks I've read good reviews on aren't being made/sold anymore.

Double backers are pretty useful. For some easy tricks with them you can go to youtube but I like making my own.

My book, The Bammo Gaffus Maximus, contains a boatload of new gaffed decks.

Just my 2 cents, I am not sure if there is really one best overall set. As you have seen there are several variations for regular red and blue Bicycles but less choices for specialize/custom backs. A few years ago when I was getting back into cards I bought an Ultra Gaff and used a few cards but for the most part I don't use it much other than the blanks, double backers etc. Most of the cards are good for one type of reveal although there are some packet type things you can build from them (3 card monte using gaff A, 2, 3.) I'd say buy one and start fooling around with it I sure you will find a couple things that you will enjoy.

My interest in Gaffs kind of comes and goes although I like a few packet tricks which may or may not use gaffs, most of what I like to do is impromptu with a regular or borrowed deck but some times I might also have a double backer or different colour card just to add something unexpected like Chicago opener.

As an amateur I usually might only carry 1 deck and a couple of packets but some guys carry around several decks, packets and gaffs. I think a lot of it comes down to what you like to do.

Rather than a gaffed deck, for say one specific effect, you're talking about a deck of mixed gaffed cards that can be selected from to use with standard decks.

The CAJ deck was I think printed that way and Ellusionist and Magic Makers I believe actually printed a deck of gaffs but for the most part the multi-gaff decks supplied by dealers in the past were put together by splitting standard gaffed card decks like blank facers, double backers, double facers etc to make up the decks that contained various.

Ellusionist I think had some of the more unique gaffs, I used the kings which had skull faces, but some cards from these decks you'll never use. It is a cheaper option than buying different types of decks so you have the odd gaff on hand though.

I just bought some gaffs to match the Superior card brand I just purchased from Conjuring arts. The set only contains 26 gaffs rather than 52.

The late and brilliant Peter Kane had a great idea: keep all your packet tricks in a card box. That way, it looks as if you're taking the cards out of a regular deck when you perform one of the effects.

This is exactly what I am looking for.  It would be nice to have a deck like this where if I ever read an effect that called for a particular gaff card I could just look through the assorted gaff deck for the card and work through the trick vs. skipping over it.  I found a deck online that has double backers, red/blue backers, red back/blank, blue back/blank, double face cards, face card/blank cards, double blank cards, short cards and corner cards.  I assume this would have me covered for almost anything but I'm still open to hear any suggestions.

Go to the Hocus-Pocus website and do a search on Gaff Decks.

They have a few available. Most are handmade gaffs with limited variety.

But this may be of interest: https://www.hocus-pocus.com/magicshop/product_detail.cfm?item=38192 - you might have to switch which deck of cards you work with.

That's the same set I got from Conjuring Arts but they were even cheaper in the Black Friday sale I told everyone about. I think I picked them up for about $7. If you get these you also need to start using the Superior card brand (I ordered a brick).

I find the Superior cards to be of high quality. I think they're made in Taiwan. They are very flat and fan and faro nicely. They are also durable and look good on both face and back. I think you can see what they look like on the CA site.

Still waiting for my brick to arrive so have only handled the gaffs so far. Based on that though I'm sure they'll be fine. But they should be, more expensive than Bicycles at the regular rate.

If your looking for just double backers the new Bicycle Playing Cards in unique colors actually come with one double backed card in each deck. If your looking for just double backers they are simple to make once you've mastered the art of splitting cards into the three separate layers that's used to put cards together. YouTube "How to make double backed gaffed cards" it's not easy if you've never done it, but once you do you can make an entire deck of double backed or even two faced.
Both these colors I know for sure come with one double backed card in each deck. Not sure of all the other colors but I'm guessing they probably do

I used to like the Bicycle Dragon decks for the same reason.

Thanks Jimmysmagic1970.  Like you mention most of the decks I've purchased come with the double backer.  The video sounds interesting though so I might have to look it up!

While Harry Lorayne would say why do you need them when there are so many great fasdiu effects (just read his books). Most of my effects are fasdiu, but I think it's great to have all you can in your quiver.

Anniversary Waltz has to be one of the best for that occasion requiring a double facer.
There is an UltraGaff deck for sale on eBay right now and if I didn't already have two I'd buy it. Maybe you'll find a use for them. I've a few uses for some of those cards.

Anytime you can find the old bike back gaff decks buy them. Some have the packets for many packet tricks.
Why not have them?

A card or so doesn’t take up much pocket space and you can keep a couple in your card box.

I use two kinds of double face and double back cards and keep them with my every day carry cards. Any chance I have to do AW I would. Open prediction with a double faced. Putting a double back in ambitious card let's you add another phase.

I just recently bought another Ultra Gaff deck because the color changing deck routine that I perform is made stronger by the thumb and finger print cards. I also carry a few double facers/backers with me to every gig that I do because I regularly perform the Anniversary Waltz, and for a sandwich trick that I perform by Yannick Chretien.
