Dear Coin Guys:

I need a trusted vendor for gaffed coins. Is Johnson still the best?
I need a universal shell for both Quarters and 1962 Half Dollars.

Todd Lassen is my go to guy for coins. You'll have to wait though. He's always heavily booked.

I agree with Bob - Roy Kuepers.https://www.roykueppers.com/

He manufactures and sells directly (although you can also get his stuff through The Browsers Den of Magic.

High quality, and he does custom work.

Thanks guys-- but I'm not good enough at coins to use a "Custom" guy-- commercial suppliers like Johnson?

Most of my gaffed coins are Johnson's and they are good. The most recent one (August 2017) I got was an Eisenhower Dollar shell and it is good.

+1 for Roy Kueppers.  Nice guy too...but aren't all Canadians??  lol

I have sent Roy coins as well and he has made the gaffs from the coins I have sent.  As I mentioned he is in Canada, so sometimes shipping is delayed a bit.

I have TRIED to work with Lassen for custom work a handful of times in the past.  I have seen his work (it's great) and have met him a while back, but of all the correspondence I have sent him, I have never received a reply, so sadly I don't bother trying anymore.

Johnson's puts out a good, dependable product.  For custom I go with Lassen.

Roy K's coins are excellent and more readily available that Todd's. You often have to wait a month or two with Todd because he has so many orders.

I use Mark Mason's shells and love them. They offer full coverage on the coin, which is something no other shell I've seen does. I've had people holding my coins in their hands with the shell nested stare directly at the coins, lifting them up to look at them on the side, and I didn't flinch. They didn't see a thing. You can buy his at jbtvusa.com . His flipper coins are spectacular too, if you need any of those.

1964 was the last year Half Dollars had high silver content, right?
Is that why the Johnson Shell shows a date of 1964?

I'm visiting a coin shop this week in pursuit of getting real silver half dollars.

I personally think Todd's work is the best, but I don't believe a wait of a year is unusual. My current order was sent in last April and is not near the front.

The 64 is unique. It was designed and minted in memorium to JFK. The coin has a 90% silver content. Not only do these 54 year olds have a brilliant natural luster, they polish up quite nicely.

The real appeal is the peal. When these babies click, they send out an angelic ring.

You should pay no more than $10 at a dealer. Ebay offers several for $9 with free shipping.
