I found a great looking narrow neck vase for the Genie Rope Vase trick. But my gimmick made of cork gets stuck and won't easily release. A friend recommended a hard rubber ball, but I haven't been able to find that size online except in LARGE quantities. Other solutions?

It sounds arduous, but you could try whittling down a solid rubber ball from a toy shop... one of those ‘super-bouncy’ ones?? I would use my Dremel at a low speed.

Hi John,

you know, I considered that today, yes!
Slow speed Dremel so it won't heat up and melt?

I have a winner!

SUGRU the moldable glue
https://sugru.com/

Had some stored in the fridge FOREVER, and I think it's going to work.
Works soft like putty, dries pretty hard, and slightly flexible.

I used it to reinforce tiny phone and USB connectors that flex and break. Works great for that!
Pass it on.

I made my ball from a tissue soaked in mix 1/2 water and 1/2 PVA (Elmers) glue and just rolled it up into a ball and let it try. I actually did several at different sizes and just chose the one that fit the best. It can make noise, but you could also flock it so that it wouldn't make as much noise.

Hi Sam,

That's a great solution, too!

Yep. I like Sam’s idea too.
And Harry’s idea would be easier than mine; pretty silent as well, I’d imagine.

You can use a pea from 3 shell game. Alternately carve down a pencil eraser.

Hi Harry,

Good idea.
I did order a HUGE eraser with dimensions to suit.
My SUGRU ball is drying this morning. Will test it.
