Hi! My name is Vicky Muse, great granddaughter of magician Ray Muse. I am putting together a family history and I am hoping that someone may have any photos, articles or anything else that I can add because I really don’t have much on him.

Thanks!

Vicky Muse

Hi Vicky,

Have you checked the Ask Alexander database for magic-related mentions of him? Full access requires a subscription, but even without one I can see that there are literally hundreds of results for Ray Muse, mostly in old magic periodicals. Looks like he was a Society of American Magicians (S.A.M.) National President, i.e. a big deal in our world. It might be worth subscribing for a month or two just to go through the articles and see what's there. (I believe you can save/print worthwhile pages as PDFs.)

Welcome! Your username wouldn't represent B-24 Liberator from WWII, would it?

That plane is very special to me.

I assume you are related to Dale Hindman?

From Steven's Magic...

Marvyn still calls Mike “one of my boys”. And there are dozens more he’s influenced along the way, like Dale Hindman, who make the list. Dale is the grandson of Ray Muse, one of Marvyn’s mentors.

So according to this your grandfather was a mentor of "Mr. Electric". Very cool!

From the periodical The Billboard 1957

https://books.google.com/books?id=Px8EAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA41&lpg=PA41&dq=magician+ray+muse&source=bl&ots=pSPeiHsctt&sig=ACfU3U199738q5DHA_W_C67pxglgba5SvQ&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiNnoP4xaTkAhWumOAKHRszDiQQ6AEwCnoECAkQAQ#v=onepage&q=magician%20ray%20muse&f=false

According to this he did a "Chinese act".

Yes I am related to Dale. My father, Robert Dennis Muse, is the middle son of Franklin Robert Howell Muse. Franklin is Rays son from his first marriage. So I think that makes Dale my fathers cousin.
Thanks so much for the info you sent me! They will go great in my family genealogy book!

Yep, that’s me! My grandpa (my moms father Robert William Depke) flew B24s in WWII! He was in the 8th Air Force, 2nd Air Division, 93rd bg, 330th squadron based at Hardwick Air Force base from October 43 to March 44.
I’ve been researching his career in wwii for over 20 years. I even have his bomber a/c 124104 (“Doity Boid”) tattooed on my shoulder. I am an aviation fanatic! I have even flown in the Collins Foundation B24 twice!

Awesome!  Unfortunately my mother's uncle died in a B 24 over Germany.  He was a radio operator.  I have some info that I'll share in a PM.  He was also in the 8th and I believe spent some time at Hardwick also.  Small world.  Would love to see the tattoo.  I have my great uncles Purple Heart and also the Air Medal that he earned.  I'm very proud of his service.

So nice that you are so proud of your grandfather.  They gave a lot of themselves on our behalf.

Wow they may have even ran into or even knew each other! It is definitely a small world!!  And when your relative was in the 44th that was not that far away from Hardwick so they may have frequented the same bar or something when they went to town!
