HI there, everyone.

I hope you're all safe and well.

My name is Andrew, and I live in Glasgow, Scotland.

I got into magic in 2009, and, whilst I do a few tricks with coins and balls, I am primarily a card guy.

I absolutely adore the art of magic, and, over the past ten years, have spent countless hours reading many of the classic texts and practicing what I have learnt. However, early on, I fell into the trap of putting too much pressure on myself. This led to analysis paralysis which, in turn, led to a nervousness that made me apprehensive to perform. As a result, I have performed very little over the years. However, after much reflection, I'm changing my attitude towards this and other things in my life this year. After all, there is no magic without an audience.

So, I'm looking to contribute what I have learned to the community, learn from the experiences of others, and hopefully meet some new friends along the way.

Thanks for having me and I look forward to chatting with you all soon.

All the best

Andrew

Welcome, Andrew. Thanks for joining us. Glad to hear you've managed to overcome that paralysis, sounds rough, but certainly understandable. It isn't easy for amateurs to find friendly places to perform, and I am speaking as an amateur.

Welcome, Andrew!

I've struggled with the old analysis paralysis myself. Still working on a cure.

I look forward to all you'll bring to the conversations here.

Hi Andrew,

Welcome to TMF, I hope you'll enjoy this place as much as I do.

A lot of things to discover here, and a lot to learn from all our members.

This is the safest place to talk about magic in my opinion.

As a Glaswegian, I'm going to assume you had the chance to go to Tam Shepherd's and meet Mr. Walton.  If so, you're an incredibly lucky guy.  Between him, Gordon Bruce, Eddie McColl, George McBride and others...Glasgow is a Mecca of magic.  I'm jealous.

Hi

Matt, I am very excited about getting involved with the Saturday Sessions. They look great. I'll see you there.

Steve, I am very lucky to have met Roy Walton. He was a lovely, generous man and a wonderful creator of magic. He will be sorely missed.

It was Roy who sold me my copy of The Royal Road to Card Magic. I had been reading Mark Wilson's Complete Course and was enjoying the card material. So, one Saturday morning I went into Tam Shepherd's and asked if there was any good books they could recommend specific to card magic. It was Roy's daughter who served me. She brought down RRTCM and then went into the back of the shop - I assumed to ring it up. Next thing, Roy comes out to speak to me. I didn't know who he was, of course, I hadn't been into magic for long. Roy told me HOW to read Royal Road and stressed the importance of that. That stuck in my mind, and I am thankful for tge advice. It's always so tempting to race forward when you start reading something as wonderful as that book. But I stayed the course, and I'm grateful to Roy for speaking to me that day, and for all the times he offered help and advice afterward. Such a generous man.

I'm sure all magicians who live in Glasgow realise how lucky they are to have had someone like Roy to help them.

Thanks for saying hello.
