Hi Everyone,

It's come to my attention that Harry's lecture is being sold on some website in China. I almost consider it an honor that material produced by the Magician's Forum has been pirated. Almost.

Harry and I don't have the power to stop them from selling it, but we can at least try to help redirect some of that money to Harry. To do that, we've made the decision to make his lecture available to the public for just $5.

If you're interested in purchasing the lecture and the interview that I did with Harry in his home, just send $5 to themagiciansforum@gmail.com via PayPal and you'll receive two, private YouTube links to watch this legend at work. All the money goes to Harry.

In addition to the lecture, Harry is offering a 20% discount on some of his books:

JAW DROPPERS TWO ($70.32 within U.S.A./$88.76 out of U.S.A.)
ONLY MY APOCALYPSE ($71.12/$89.56)
SPECIAL EFFECTS ($74.56/$88.76)
THE CLASSIC COLLECTION, Vols. 2,  3, 4, 5 ($79.00/$99.00)

Contact Harry at harrylorayne@earthlink.net if you're interested, and be sure to let him know if you want the book(s) autographed.

Thanks for supporting our online lectures!

Rudy

I stumbled onto a website that had virtually everything in magic for practically nothing e.g. 99 cents and $1.99. My book Power Plays was there (PDF) as well as my Penguin lecture. It was a mindblower to see just how much existed on the site. There were all sorts of books in PDF that didn't exist in pdf form by the author. Evidently they just scan all the pages and sell it. Of course all DVDs and downloads were there.

Very depressing.

Sorry, Mike. I have to confess that early on in my journey, I was guilty of downloading magic from a place called, Filetopia. Of course, I feel bad about it now and haven't been there for years. In fact, I've purchased hard copies of many of the DVD's and books that I essentially stole from their creator.

I've come to understand how this hurts the magicians who spend so much of their time, effort and energy to produce the items that they've made available to us.

Now, I'm one of the one whose being pirated. What goes around, comes around [smile]

Harry and Rudy,

That's far too generous a bargain to pass up. Sorry that the offer was prompted by pirating. Sigh.

Thanks,

Many magicians just don't realize how bad the piracy problem has been. I've been a victim a few times myself.

How did they access it in the first place, there wasn't a hard copy or download was there? Hate to think someone on the forum was involved. Hope not.

I'm not sure how they obtained the video. There are many people who were not members of this forum who purchased the lecture through Ron Arceo's website, the Magician's Lecture.

In my early days (pre-Internet!) I made some photocopies of items from books.  Later I was awakened to the realities of intellectual property.  Like Rudy, I have replaced the ones I could with legitimately purchased copies of the books, and ditched the rest.

Unfortunately it is often very straightforward to save a copy of a streamed video (basically converting a stream into a download).  So realistically, anyone who had access to the lecture could have copied it.

It's frustrating and sad this practice is so widespread. A friend of mine released his debut book a few months ago, and it's already popped up on a couple on these sites.

The only thing we can do, I suppose, is support the creators in our craft like Harry and others.

I just caught up with this thread, and purchased Harry’s lecture & interview from Rudy.  I’ve been fortunate to see Harry lecture several times over the years, and this brings back many happy memories.  So far I’ve only watched about 20 minutes of this video lecture, but I must say it’s brilliant!  Thanks for making this available.  Harry’s creativity and thinking is just tremendous.  You should be charging a lot more …

From what I've seen (trawling some of the older threads about the lecture), you have handled this whole matter with great class, Rudy.

I've just sent my money via PayPal, and look forward to watching the lecture and interview.

Perhaps I'll even write one of my reviews on it, to be posted here on The Magicians Forum as well as some of other sites, to help make more people aware of this rare opportunity to learn from a living legend and expert card handler like Harry Lorayne.

Thank you to Mr Lorayne, to you Rudy, and to anyone else involved in making this possible.

I've completed watching the lecture and interview, and it is fantastic.  I highly recommend it to others!  For only $5, it's a real bargain, especially since you get to see performances and teaching of 15 great tricks (including some of Harry Lorayne's all time favourites), plus an hour long personal interview which gives a real glimpse of this great card man.

I've written a detailed review on the Jaw Droppers lecture, which can be found here:

http://www.themagiciansforum.com/post/review-harry-loraynes-jaw-droppers-lecture-9702987

I've also taken the time to note down a complete list of all the effects performed and taught in the lecture, along with the times where each begins.  I've included that list below for convenience, because I think that others who have the lecture will find this very useful to refer to, especially if you want to go back to a particular effect in order to watch it again or learn it.

Shown in brackets in the list below is the time on the video where the performance and explanation of each can be found:
1. Fantastic Ace Assembly (01:20 & 06:00
)
2. Numero Uno (04:00 & 11:30)
3. HaLo Aces (20:20 & 22:30)
4. Double Take (33:20 & 34:30)
5. Startler (37:50 & 38:20)
6. Greatest Card Handler (43:00 & 47:10)
7. Powerful Powers (54:50 & 59:00)
8. Magician Versus Gambler (1:07:00 & 1:10:40)
9. Pleasing Combination (1:24:00 & 1:30:00)
10. Really (1:33:40 & 1:37:30)
11. Slide Finder (1:44:35 & 1:46:20)
12. Blown Further Away (1:52:10 & 1:56:10)
13. Monte Plus (2:04:45 & 2:06:45)
14. 8451 Plus (2:10:25 & 2:13:40)
15. That's The Truth (2:21:00 & 2:24:00)

Is this offer still available?
Are the tricks in these videos, at least some of them, do able for a beginner?
Are there other things being talked about, like maybe psychology behind magic or other things that are not necessarly a trick but does have something to do with magic? I really liked for instance in the book of Tommy Wonder: the Books of Wonder Volume 1 that there is talked about the thinking in magic and the psychological way things are percieved. I actually really liked to read about this.

So I guess the question is, are the tricks doable for beginners and if not, is there any other content which will be usefull for me who is a beginner?

Thx for the information. I searched for the book in Dutch shops since the shipping costs are not that much but I can not seem to find it anywhere…
I also wonder why you sell those apocalypse books on your website which I did not know you wrote, but I have seen them in the past and they look very interesting for sure but in the dutch magic shop I know they only cost 100€.
You seem to ask 180 dollar. I do not understand that to be honest but okay.
I only makes me wonder why I should buy this magic book you are suggesting at your webshop when those books you sell on it which are available also in dutch shops are actually 50-80 dollar more expensive…
Knowing that this book needs to come from America I guess this will also mean I will have to pay A LOT of shipping expenses to get it into my country: Belgium.

Like I said, the book looks very interesting, just like the apocalyps books series you wrote but shipping expenses hold me back of buying this book on your website.
I really do not have a lot of money and to pay 20-30€ extra just to get the book delivered in Belgium is a impossible thing to do for me. I once bought a money maker machine but needless to say: I was dissapointed and it did not help my money problem.
When I then see you sell the exact same books (Apocalyps series) on your webshop for 180 dollar when I can get that exact same book for 100€ and will have to pay less delivery expenses then I hope you understand that I will have to think about it.

Jim,

If you can find Harry's books at better prices, then more power to you. If you take a look at his site, though, you will see that many of his books are currently available in ebook form, and at terrific prices. Some folks don't care for ebooks, other do. If you are open to the idea you can save boatloads of Euros and amass a portable library in no time. If ebooks appeal to you, you might also check out lybrary.com - Chris has lots of magic books for sale there in ebook PDF format.

Work within your budget and you will no doubt find plenty of resources!

Just save your money so that you can buy the good stuff!   And - THE MAGIC BOOK would cost you $56.00 U.S. dollars - yes, the out-of-U.S.A. airmail postage is outrageously expensive - obviously Jim, if that's too much for you - don't buy it!!.

Yes I looked for an ebook version of this book on the site Mister Lorayne shared with me but sadly the book he recommends is not available for download...
I am on the moment in a situation where I have 50€ a week...
so yeah, I hope that you can understand then that it just is impossible to use 20-30€ from that 50 to just pay for delivery expenses…
I live in Belgium but there are not really magicshops in my country I think, or at least none with a webshop. So I look for shops in the Netherlands. Since Belgium is connected to Netherlands by borders the delivery expenses are not that high. It depends on how much you order ofcourse but I am sure that if I would buy one effect or book it would only cost me around 10€ delivery expenses.

Thank you anthony for the link to ebook library, will surely check it out!

Thank you Kingman for the links, it seems that delivery expenses are only 4.99 outside US. I barely can not believe that but I will keep this website in mind when I have saved a bit of money.

The $5 download for Harry's latest lecture is a very good bargain for 15 tricks and hear advice and some stories from his 70 year career. It's certainly a very good place to start.

Some of us have to by used copies of books. Should we not ever get them because we aren't allowed to by used versions? 😉 I am grateful that I was able to order a couple books directly from you, and even had them signed, although you spelled my name incorrectly, but that is ok, everyone does, but some I could only add to my library because I was lucky enough to find used copies. If someone is not able to afford a brand new copy, then the least we can do is let them know where to get used copies. At least I did not tell him where there are free copies of the pdf's available, and before you ask, yes I have let you know in the past where I have seen people selling or giving away your pdf's.

Harry’s Close Up Card Magic (ebook) is just a little more than 15 bucks.

I highly recommend it!

PDF's are great! I have ordered a few of them, but for my taste, if I can get a book I will. I cannot really move my computer to my magic table to read and practice, but a book can sit open in front of me and I can get my chops down. PDF's are a good alternative, but give me paper any day! 😉

Can't do this with PDFs.

I write software for a living, and am in front of a computer maybe 12 hours a day. I used to be a "Book Only" person. I have a lot of books and still buy them - magic and other. Finding a place for them for easy access yet not 'in the way' becomes an issue over time with professional material, the other detritus of life AND magic books all sharing space.

I began to embrace eBooks probably when Jon Racherbaumer had his site up and was delivering eBooks on a monthly basis to subscribers. I have a Kindle that can display PDFs although I'm not in love with the application that does so. I have a Microsoft Surface (if you're not familiar with that, read it as Laptop or tablet). I use this for work, and I also have it with me when I'm in another part of the house, or when I'm out. I can prop the tablet open where my pad and cards are, usually easier than trying to keep a book from going shut on me while trying something. Add to that the fact that I can go to YouTube to see if someone has posted a halfway decent demo of what I'm learning.

I'm not a "PDF Only" guy, I have probably 12 paper magic books in the other room where my pad and cards/etc. are. But I can open an eBook right here just as easily as I do the browser to check up on TMF when I need to take a break from work.

When L&L has had eBook sales, I've purchased the eBook for any L&L books I have. My first editions of Alex Elmsley, and all my Larry Jennings can stay on the bookshelf while I spin through the eBook able to search electronically for things.

The smell of a new book, the ability to get it signed by the author, sitting on a cool day with a blanket and a paper book -- all good things, but for me eBooks have a valid place as well.

Hi Dave - I totally share your views on eBooks. I too have a MS Surface and a ton of PDFs and Word files too. My journey to eBooks is similar to yours. I started as a subscriber to Jon R's site and loaded up on eBooks and DOC files. When L&L had sales on eBooks I bought nearly everything they were selling even though I have most of the books in physical form already. Having a library inside an MS Surface and also in my phone is a tremendous benefit.

I'm going to sell my entire collection of MAGIC Magazines (all issues ever printed) since I purchased the full PDF set. Same with Genii, although I think Genii only went up to 2012 or so. I'll keep all the mags that aren't in the PDF collection.

I still like having the physical books e.g. Elmsley, Marlo, Jennings etc and I pull them from the shelf often. But if I had to choose, I'd go with eBooks.

A great option if it is available to you, but a poster that says he cannot afford a $50 book is never going to be able to get a 400-500 dollar tablet to read PDF's. I know I sure can't.
Now we are way off-topic on the lecture. LOL

But for you Jim, yes the lecture is worth every cent! It is some great magic and taught by the best teacher. Get it if you can!

You may want to check the local IBM rings to get their input. A listing for Belgium is at: https://www.magician.org/about/local-ibm-rings?country=Belgium

(Thanks goes to Robin Dawes for the idea from another post)
