Who was it? Can you tell us what they did? When I saw Martin Nash as a young man I thought he was God with the cards, but he didn't do a true gambling demo.

Tell us about your experience...did it motivate you to get into cards?

I got to see the great Jack Pyle of Chicago back in the 1980's. His punch dealing was legendary. He'd have a spectator shuffle the deck thoroughly and would then explain that in the game of Bridge, high cards are the best cards i.e. J, Q, K and Ace. In Bridge the full deck is dealt to four people, 13 cards each. People across from each other are partners. He claimed that he would deal all the high cards to his partner and himself. Then he did it!

His seconds and bottoms were beautiful. I'll see if I can find a video of Jack doing the gambling stuff.

Here's a link to video of Jack Pyle's bridge deal. The quality is terrible, but you'll get the idea.

Just curious

Marlo could do the "real work" for sure. He had tons of techniques for bottoms and seconds and also false shuffles and cuts etc. A real expert.

Ed shows his Punch Deal in a video. I believe the one put out by Randy Wakeman , part of which was shot at Shulien's I think. Ed could do it all and did it well. There are some videos on YouTube.

Have you seen the John Scarne video on YouTube where he exposes cheating moves?

Thanks for sharing these vids, Ray. Always great to watch these!

I’d also like to recommend Harry Lorayne’s fabulous “Magician vs Gambler” routine(s). Easy search on YouTube. Plural because Harry has done a few different versions based on a similar premise. But they are all good and really fun to watch.

We're so spoiled "technology-wise" these days that we take a lot of things for granted. I remember my parents friend, who was an electronics salesman, giving them their first VCR. It was an RCA and still works! It retailed around $1,100.00. Blank tapes were around $20.00.

Shame we don't have more clips of some of the greats.

I went to a book signing by James Swain a bunch of years ago -- to sign one of his novels.

I took "Miracles With Cards" and a deck with me -- he was surprised someone would be there with a magic book. He kindly autographed my book and signed a card for me.

His lecture was all about gambling, and his experiences finding cheats in casinos as a consultant and some of the things he found.

He did some awesome poker gambling demonstrations that should have made everyone in the room swear off playing poker ever again.

He made a comment that if you're in a poker game -- with your neighbors, some organized event, or on TV -- if you don't know who is being cheated -- it's YOU.

Jim Swain was a lecturer at Dan Block's "Buffalo Get-Together" one year. He could definitely do the real work. Paul Wilson lectured there too. He's an excellent technician as well. Same with Jason England.

I bought all of James Swain's "non-magic" books. They are fun reads and the characters are interesting.
He is a talented magician and fiction writer.

James Swain is a class act...

I had a couple of questions for him, so I e-mailed him and he responded to my questions. He didn't have to do that, he didn't know who I was..I thought it was great of him to do that.

Great videos Rayj!
