Hi all-

I’m Don. I’m a hobbyist, but magic has been a part of my life (on & off) for as long as I can remember.
Growing up in Chicagoland made me aware of and very fond of closeup and bar magic.
I’m a fan of the work of Harry Lorayne, Eugene Burger, and Nick Trost to name a few.
I prefer to do self-working/semi-automatic card magic and mentalism, but lately I’ve been working on learning and strengthening my sleights.
I stumbled upon the Forum while online searching for some Lorayne effects- looks like a great resource!

Welcome Don!

You will find TMF to be a great place to share and learn magic, browse around and read the many topics we have here and probably soon we will have a Saturday Session or an online lecture.

Have fun around TMF!

Welcome Don!  These guys are right.  There's a wide variety of magic in here.  It's like a continuous magic convention and sessioning and workshops.

Thanks Dave!

Such a great history of magic around here- and it is still strong with performance venues, magic shops, clubs, and a wide variety of lecturers presenting when they are in the area.

I no longer travel to Chicago for business but when I did I took advantage of the wealth of magic shops in that town.

One day I was in Magic, Inc. and the demonstrator was showing me a new "monte" trick that had just come out.  Mechanical cards made for some killer displays.  I asked if Jay Marshall happened to be in and sure enough, he was.  He came out and we talked for 30 minutes.  I got the ball rolling by saying I was an old friend of the late Gene Devoe and he immediately began talking about memories of Gene.  It was like old home week for him.  His health was not great at that time and it was obvious, but he was happy to talk about St. Louis and his friends there and I could see a glint in his eye.  For me that was worth the trip, seeing him smile.

Yep Ray, always a fantastic vibe there - it was great when Jay and Frances would come up front to chat.
