Hello, my name is Seth Howard. I'm a magician based out of Astoria, OR. I've been here on the North Coast for the last 6 years. I lived in Portland, OR for 15 years before that. I'm originally from Kansas.
Looking forward to getting involved on this forum.  magicseth2.jpg

Welcome Seth!  Looks like you are performing at a bar in the picture?  We would love to know more details about you and your experiences with magic, influences, etc.  And look for the invitation to join the Satuday Sessions.  We gather as a community and share some magic and have some in-depth discussions related to what is shown, variations, etc.  Great way to introduce yourself and get to know us as we learn more about you!

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I guess my experience with magic is like most others. I first really got into magic in 7th grade when my science teacher showed me a card trick. It was a Marshall Brodien marked deck. I begged him to tell me. I went to Wal-Mart and bought a marked deck, blank deck, and svengali deck.
Our school only had one magic book, 'Dunninger's Complete Encyclopedia of Magic'. I don't remember how many time I read that cover to cover. At some point in there I was given a thumb tip.
Eventually, high school came along and sports kept me pretty busy.
When I was 21 I moved to Portland, OR. I was re-introduced to magic at a shop in the Lloyd Center Mall. I eventually managed that shop until it closed. The owner was a good friend and mentor but he's now in prison and I don't even communicate with him anymore.
So for the past 21 years I have been performing semi-professionally. I also have a created a few tricks for the magic market.
In my picture I'm performing at a friend's Wine Bar here in Astoria.

I mainly do close-up, parlor and mentalism. Currently working on a re-write of my parlor show so it feels fresh to me.

So basically you're performing in bars while your mentor is behind bars?  I guess he didn't do escapes...
