Hi Everyone,

Thank you for welcoming me to this forum. I'm happy to see that this group is so active and helpful to the questions and comments of those who post. So a little about me and my magic story.

My name is Attilio and I'm from a small town about an hour north of Toronto Canada. My journey into magic started when I was in my late teens when I met a magic retailer who set up a little stand in our local shopping mall selling some books, tricks, and props. Mostly commercial dealer items like packet tricks. He was always accommodating and generous with his time and demonstrations of the tricks he was selling and we would go to visit him once or twice a week. One day he showed my friend and I MacDonald’s Aces and well, that was it for me. I was hooked. From that point on, I couldn’t get enough and started to build my collection of books and tricks. Our magic salesman friend eventually closed up his booth and moved on, so my friends and I started to frequent the two magic shops in Toronto.

I then left to attend university in Ottawa and met the guys from the IBM ring. They welcomed me as a member and I learned a lot, however over time, I started to grow apart from them and magic altogether. There was a period where magic wasn't part of my life at all.

About 10 years ago, my son who was almost 4 years old at the time found a box of my magic stuff while I was re-organizing my home office closet. He seemed interested in the sponge balls so I tried my best to do a couple of things I could remember and he loved it! That re-sparked my interest and I fell back in love with magic. Since then, I’ve focused pretty much exclusively on cards. I mainly perform for my wife, kids, family and friends. I taught my son how to do Vernon’s Triumph (he’s actually pretty good at it). I really love to spend hours reading my books and practicing card moves that are described. Even if many of the moves are never used in a trick, I find that working on sleights like the pass, side steal, DPS, etc, etc, brings me focus and clarity of thought while facing challenges not even related to magic.

Lately I've committed myself to learning the Tamariz stack, I have it pretty much down, but require more practice to get it flowing smoothly. I still find myself taking a bit of time remembering that the 7 of clubs is in position 47. While learning this memdeck, I've also grown to appreciate the "Spanish school" of magic. The approach to magic and way of thinking has really made me a fan of guys like Ascanio, Tamariz and DaOrtiz.

Wow, this is going on much longer than I planned. Thanks to anyone who has read this far! I love to chat magic and feel like my knowledge is pretty good, so if you want to chat, send me a message. Otherwise I'll see you in the forums!

Welcome aboard Attilio!

I didn't start as young as you, but like you I did have a hiatus away from magic... and I came back with a vengeance. I'm a hobbyist, but a very committed one, or maybe I should BE committed, I'm not sure which 😉

I'm sure you'll enjoy all the discussions here, and find everyone friendly

Welcome Attilio from an amateur "Spanish Schooler" ^_^

We have a simila experience about having a son.
I taught him some popular an easy mathematical card tricks.
He is 6 years old.
Just checking out if he likes it as when I had his age.
