I talked with Magicfish about the tabled touch force on" the other forum"; and he told me the answer was here; but it seems to be in a restricted area, and I can't find the forum access rules in order to know how to get the necessary password...

Gilles,

The ceiling for entry is 100 posts. That said, if we - Rudy and/or the mods - determine earlier that you are serious about magic, we provide much quicker entry. Hang around, engage a bit, and give us an opportunity to get to know you better. Cool?

Hi Giles,

I want to welcome you again to our forum. As Anthony said, their is a 100 post “requirement” before you become part of our Inner Circle and given the password to the Session Room.

I put that in place because I need a way to ensure that this community remains positive, respectful, and troll-free. The post requirement gives me and our moderators a chance to get to know someone and get a sense of whether or not they will be a positive, contributing member of this community. In some cases, I’ve granted access to someone after just reading 10 posts.

There are lots of great conversations taking place here and always an opportunity to engage with others. I hope you’ll do so.

Thanks for joining us!

Rudy

Good day to all of you!
First, I want to  thank you for all your warm welcomes, specially the mods who seems to take great care of every individual here.!
Second, about the 100 posts ceiling: well, if it's the price to pay to avoid trolling, lurking, and a site constitued of 90 percent of members only trying to sale you something, so be it!
I'll wait before discovering the tabled touch force, I think I can  live with that...
Maybe a couple of things about myself, for those who want to know a bit more: I'm belgian, french is my mother tongue, nor english, so please don't spit on me if sometime my english is a bit awkward...
I'm a theatre technician, stage manager presently, and I used to be lighting designer, even if today I must admit I'm left behind by the evolution of the technology! Hey, I'll be 60 soon... But I think I still can be helpful when it comes to scenery, lighting design, this kind of stuff.
Voila! Enough about me...

Gilles, it is great fun to learn more about members here. Your job sounds interesting. My youngest daughter is active in theater and has worked several tech positions in the past. People don't realize how important it is.

Your English is superb. Way better than my French!

Gilles,

It's a really friendly place here, most certainly the best I've found on the Internet.

Everyone is making its (his?) best here to give some help. Do not miss the Saturday Sessions when they happen (about one every two months or so), even if it will be at 11PM for both of us, as I'm in France.

Je te souhaite une bonne découverte de ce forum, ami francophone.

Lucas.

Bonjour, Gilles.

So nice to have you on board. Here is the biggest difference between TMF and the green place: we actually LOVE magic here. We love discussing it; and we actually try our best to improve the artform by helping each other.  We disagree about some things, but that's OK too.

We are happy to have you join us!

Plus, we rarely spit (though some of us senile members may drool a bit).

I was wondering, is there a place in the restricted area for DIY enthusiasts?

Not that I'm aware of Gilles, but if there is interest, I'm sure Rudy could add a sub-category to the site.

Could be fun to have a place to post questions, problems, challenges,...There is more in a few hundreds heads than in one! Just my two cents...

Personally I don't see the need for a special category. Way too esoteric. Why not title all new threads on the subject with the designator DIY. Example: DIY - Cutting Sponge Marmots. That way the threads are easily searchable by those inclined to sharpen their scissors.

Ok, same effect!
I wonder how many " scissors sharpeners" are hosted by this site...
