I'm getting word that J.C. Doty passed away today. He was the Atlanta magician that built the TomFoolery Magic Bar for Mullica and was an accomplished magician in his own right.

Doty was a kind man who could make you feel like you were old friends regardless of how long you knew him. Always sharing and always had a notepad in his pocket with his latest joke recorded for memory's sake.

Years ago he did a drunk act that was hilarious and side-splitting comedy routine.

Sad month for magic, huh?

Oh, God; terrible news. JC was a good friend. One incident: Years ago, I was appearing miles from Atlanta, was flying out of NYC, terrible weather, couldn't land in Atlanta, called JC. He drove in that terrible weather to pick me up, took me to his home where I spent the night.  Drove me to my gig the next day - back to his home, to the airport the next day, and so on. What a friend; what an awful loss.

I remember Doty at the magic club meetings here in Atlanta. He loved showing off his latest gag or trick with a big smile and friendly greeting. The first time I saw little dogs made from beads was by Doty.
