This is one of my favorite magic videos of all time, Jimmy Grippo doing card tricks for Orson Welles and Merv Griffin, there's a lot of magic and Mr Grippo does a very natural presentation. I just wanted to share it here for anyone who's never seen it [smile]

I was privileged to see Jimmy G at the Desert Magic Seminar in Las Vegas in 1980. Also saw Johnny Paul and some other "old timers." It was my first magic convention and it was awesome. The video is great. What a performer!

I love watching guys like Jimmy Grippo not just for their magic, but because of the unique personalities. What an interesting character!

Read about him in a book from 1970s called, near as I can recall, The World's Greatest Magic. It was a hardcover for the general public and featured Copperfield, Norm Nielson, Richard Ross. Al Goshman, et al. Then there's this guy Jimmy Grippo who to me looked a lot like Roy Orbison. From the description of his act in the book he sounded like a real one-of-a-kind. I believe he was credited as the magician-in-residence at Caesar's Palace. It was decades before I was able to see footage of him performing, and boy was it worth the wait!

Did he do a classic force on the table!? Really bold!

Also loved the line during the mind reading trick at the end 'Don't look into my eyes, look at the side of my face.' Felt really authentic.

Thanks for sharing.

Wasn't there supposed to be a book on his magic "real soon now"?

Great book! Cards, coins, thimbles, rings...lots of nice photos of him with other celebrities Jimmy Carter, Woody Allen, Muhammad Ali, Omar Sharif...I especially like the one where he is sitting at the desk in the oval office!

Jimmy would come to Gary Darwin's meeting in Vegas every Wednesday night. He was a very interesting man to talk with and to watch perform.
