Under the present conditions (coronavirus) I would have thought he'd offer this for free.  Or at least donate the proceeds to a worthy cause ...

I understand where you are coming from, Arthur. But, I do know that this is his livelihood and with all the virus cancellations happening, work has dried up. I look at it as his trying to making lemonade from lemons to support himself and his family.

Agreed, Arthur.

But that said, perhaps he's in need of gigs as much as everybody else. In which case, a fee is understandable.

If people want to give stuff away or do it for charity, that's great. But given that there have been other recent threads about finding ways of supporting professional performers during this time, to the point of even sending donations to them outright, one can hardly fault Mr. Turner for offering his services in a way that might enable him to earn some sort of an income during this time.

You're right, guys.  I hadn't thought this through completely.

My apologies, Joe!  Hope you get a lot of subscriptions.

That said, I have to relate something which happened a few years ago, at a time when my wife and I, through no fault of our own, ended up in dire financial straits.  We were about to release a brand new product to the magic community, the proceeds of which were intended to help us survive.

Then a good magic friend of ours died after long a long bout of heart troubles, leaving his wife with insurmountable medical bills and other debts.  Some folks in the magic community offered vague promises of assistance.  But when a well-known magician announced that he would donate 5% of the proceeds of one of his products, I was incensed.  Five percent!  Are you kidding me?

So Leslie and I ignored our own desperate financial needs, and launched a campaign to sell our new product, donating 100% of the proceeds to our late friend’s wife.  This resulted in making our own financial recovery much harder and longer.  But under the circumstances, helping someone else seemed much more important than our own needs.

Let's all do what we can to help each other as best we can. Joe makes his living as a magician. His income stream just dried up. He's not in a position to donate the money from his show. He needs the money. Big companies like Vanishing Inc. will survive and even thrive.

Let's buy from the creators instead of the corps. People making their living doing shows and selling a few products are in big trouble. Buying directly from them is the way to go.
Also direct gifts to people we know who need help can really be an important way to help. Some of us have more than we need. Some just lost the way they pay the bills. It's obvious what to do.

I was going to beat a dead horse. Now I'm not. I don't have to. What Mike said. Times infinity.
