"Hardly a day passes without someone asking me if my name is pronounced 'Day' or 'Die'.  The correct pronunciation is 'Die', although nearly everyone in New York used to call me 'Day'."

David Ben once told me that Vernon was just as well known among silhouette artists as he was among magicians. Since David wrote his biography I figured he would know so I decided to test it. There aren't that many silhouette artists around to test it on but I did come across one working at a trade show. I asked her if she had ever heard of Dai Vernon. She amused my by saying, "Of course. Did you know he was a magician too?" It was the "too" bit that amused me. It seemed to be a mere afterthought on her part.
