Hi!

My name is Frank.

I have been interested in magic since I was a kid. Probably the first trick I ever saw was the twenty-one card trick. After that I took out every book in the library.
Then my parents took me and my brothers to Abbotts Get-Together in Colon Michigan. I remember it like it was yesterday. Then after I started driving I went to local shops and back to Colon. I'm fortunate I live only a little ways east of The Magic Capital of The World.
Over the years I got to know the magicians at Abbotts and other Michigan magicians like Hank Morehouse and Roy Kissel. I knew Harry Blackstone Jr. And learned a lot from him.

I will watch any type of magic. But my primary interest is cards and coins. I'm in search of doing magic and not just tricks. My favorite magicians are Vernon, Slydini, Marlo and Ramsay.

Two of the current magicians that exemplify the approach I like are John Luka and Michael Vincent what they do looks magical and not like a trick.

I still have a ways to go.

Glad to be here!

Welcome Frank!

I think you will find this a positive, friendly and supportive community, without the drama and nastiness that pervades other fora.  As a card and coin guy you will find lots of people here who share your interests.  Don't hold back from asking questions or joining any of the dozens of ongoing conversations.

Just out of curiosity, how did you find this group?

Hi Frank,

Welcome to the magician's forum.

I hope you'll enjoy this place as much as I do.

Welcome Frank! Hopefully we can help you on your journey and we can learn from you as well. I got to meet Harry Blackstone and wife Gay once. Sat with them at a banquet. Charming people.

He did an amazing performance in St. Louis, elephant and all. He is missed.

Hi Frank,

I grew up in Holland, MI, the other side of the state from you.

When I was young, my parents took me to see Harry Blackstone, Jr in Grand Rapids, MI. I still have the large booklet from the show.
(Probably 45yrs ago or so)

I probably only visited Abbott's a few times growing up. I remember the first time picking up a Zinab fanning deck. It's still around here someplace.

Nice to have you here with us, enjoy.

Welcome. Lot's of great resources available here.

You know, I've been messing with this stuff close to 60 years and I don't believe I ever saw the 21 Card Trick actually performed! References to it - 100's.  Maybe we can have a discussion some time on what trick the infamous layman is most likely to perform when given (or taking) a deck of cards.

Since you mentioned John Luka, I just thought I'd throw in a hurrah for his assembly routine called "Back to the 19th Century" - lauded by the likes of Daryl, Dan Tong and TMF's own Craig Alan.  It is absolutely one of the best I have ever seen.
