The performer introduces a small envelope and says that there is a playing card inside. He places the envelope on the table and never touches it again.

A participant takes the deck out of the box and shuffles it. Then they cut the deck and the top card is immediately turned over. It is, for example, the 7 of Spades. The deck is turned face-up and clearly spread to show that there are no duplicates.

The participant opens the envelope and removes the card inside. It is a perfect match - the 7 of Spades.

NO sleight-of-hand required. This literally is as easy as it gets!

Another great review.  It is interesting to note that there is a thread on another forum about this effect and the drama that ensues within the thread is priceless.  There apparently have been legitimate issues with the functionality of the gaffs as supplied.  Not in all instances obviously, but some have reported issues.  It would be good to know if that happens what your recourse is.  I presume if you contact Murphy's or the dealer from which you bought the effect they would make it right.

I'm torn on this one.  I think the "Too Perfect Theory" rears its head a bit here.  To me the MO was obvious.  I understand what David means by the "extra" gaffs being added so that it IS what I thought with a little extra.  But in reality all the additional stuff adds is perhaps a degree of certainty to the cut.  The success rate is said in other places to be maybe 90%.  But as reported in the excellent review, if the first cut doesn't hit, all is not lost.  Handling the miss is going to be key.  You simply must make it appear that it didn't matter.
