MCs routine is actually Allan Ackerman's routine reinvented. Mike later credited Ackerman with the idea. The method is identical. I'm not sure where the Ackerman routine is, though? I'll do some checking.

The Ackerman routine is called "Impromptu Ultra Mental." It's in "Here's My Card." This is a great little book, BTW. Lots of excellent material. I think it has been OOP for a long while, though.

Patrick Redford posted a variation of the Michael Close handling on his Out of Order pages - some nice refinements.
