I was thinking I saw a magic trick in which the spectator chose between 2 cards, selecting one and giving the other 2 the magician.  At the end, both the spectator and the magician had 5 cards in which the magician reveals he had a royal flush.  Am I remembering this right?

Sounds like it could be "Power of Poker" by John Bannon.

Penn and Teller did it on one of the late night shows last year.

Officially learned the trick.  I like simple tricks since I'm a beginner.  Now if could just learn that damn double lift!!

It's a good one to hone your presentation skills on, since there aren't any covert moves and you just have to do things in the right order. Have fun!
