Hi,

Just signed up for The Magician's Forum after seeing Harry Lorayne via Youtube delight us for two hours.  I first saw Mr. Lorayne in 1964 at my first major magic convention in New York City.  I was a few months shy of my 18th birthday.  Harry did an hour of captivating card magic and entertained everyone.  He blew me away and I've been a fan ever since.

I'm a retired radio announcer and producer, now living in the Portland, Oregon area.  Member of SAM 59 here.  I spent many years living in New England and became a regular at Ray Goulet's Magic Art Studio in Watertown, Mass. in the Boston metro area.  Ray was a wonderful friend, and so is his wife and partner Ann, and they taught me so much.  Ray introduced me to the world of magic history which is still a passion for me.

Not much of a performer, especially since rheumatoid arthritis has done some hand damage, but I still enjoy practicing once in awhile and especially hanging out with magic friends.  Unfortunately a regular Tuesday magicians' "Lunch Bunch" here is on hold due to Covid-19.  I really miss that and hope it restarts after awhile.  Was really looking forward to the annual Portland Magic Jam - a great little convention - but that got scuppered as well.

So online input has become even more important and I'm glad to be welcomed into The Magicians' Forum. Thanks for letting me in!

Welcome, Frank!

I visited Ray Goulet's Magic Art Studio many times in the 1970's.  Great guy, and what a fantastic magic collection he had!   I remember when he was in the shop, he'd carry on full conversations and business deals while the same time continuously dealing seconds.  I also took some lessons with Danny Tong over there.

Wonderful memories!

Arthur

Arthur - I didn't meet Ray until the early 80's.  I was lucky to be a regular for a time at "Saturdays at Ray's" with Irv Weiner, Dave Cresey, General Grant (Murphy), Alan Wassilak and others.  Great times.  I learned so much.

Wow, Frank ... this takes me back!  I often ran into those legendary names "in the back room", so to speak, when I visited Ray's Studio.  Irv Weiner, in particular, was a huge influence on my style of performing card magic.

Thanks for saying hi, and I'll see you in the forum.
