I was wondering what you do if someone hands you a deck of cards and you do a poker deal or a poker demo, what do you do?

For me I have as conditions-

~ No culls
~ No faros
~No Taking the Aces out of the deck and putting them back in again

Would the Lorayne Poker Deal work under these conditions?

What can you suggest?

Rick-

Lorayne's Poker Deal may not work under those conditions, but Card Sharp Versus the Four Gamblers sure would.

That would probably be my thing.

If not interested, I'd probably start by doing some false shuffle and second deal demos, move into some pseudo centre deal things, and slowly get into set ups for poker stuff there.

If you're presenting it as a gambling demo, I also don't see what's wrong with openly setting up, you're not doing magic you're doing poker.

Then again I don't really perform gambling stunts except for other magicians. I feel like it's all about showing off what you can do, my main goal with magic isn't, you must be so skilled to do that, but rather what you did isn't possible! Things like Open Travellers or Triumph suit me more (just personal preference, I love watching and studying the heck out of gambling sleights!)

For a more magical effect, maybe 10 card poker or some such thing.

If aces are forbidden, I'd use the four kings or queens or jacks.  [smile]

Or a royal flush. [smile] [smile]

That said, I agree with Chi Han. Take out any cards you need for the  demo. It's not a trick, it's well, a demonstration, of something that can be done with cards by people with nimble fingers and larceny in their hearts.

My gambling stuff is gambling tricks, not the Real Work (whatever that's supposed to be) and for lay folk, who've never heard of the Real Work, it's fine. More than fine, in fact.

I have some recollection of a Harry Lorayne poker deal, built around the "Lorayne Poker Deal," but starting with a shuffled pack. Mister Lorayne can probably remember where and what it is. I can't.

Of course, I could be dreaming.

The one I can't remember is in a Lorayne book, "Reputation Makers," maybe. There may also be something after the fashion in "Apocalypse".

Paul Gordon's "Head To Head Poker"is a winner. So is "Psychic Poker," by Paul Hallas.

Both mentioned here, among others. Plus a demo from Paul Gordon.

I'm ashamed I didn't think of the Ortiz's Mexican Poker. That thing is killer! He credit's Mr. Lorayne and points out that he even uses the same 10 cards.

However, I'm not ashamed to say that the no culls, no faros stipulation bothered me cause I was like, "Crap, that's what I usually do..."

Pick up stack or cull a hand, 2 in-faros, deal 4 hands and off I go. It's elementary to us but who cares? It slays.

Anyone interested in 10 card poker needs to check out Bob Farmer's seminal work on the plot.  I believe it is called 'The Bammo Ten Card Deal Dossier'.  Reviews are nothing short of excellent.

Agreed. And the cuts/faros don't have to be perfect.
