Do any of the Brits here remember Michael Parkinson's Christmas magic show on TV sometime in the late 70s?

I think it was the first appearance of a young hippie called Ricky Jay, as well as Fred Kaps and an illusionist whose name, to my shame, I have long forgotten.

It was, for me, absolutely astonishing. Ricky performed a wonderful effect in which he lost Parkys original selection, offered him a second, then showed the original selection in his hand. When Parky said that it was his original selection, Ricky asked what his second selection was, scaled the card out and it had changed to that second selection.

I also remember ( rightly or wrongly) Fred Kaps and Ricky performing some lovely coin magic together.

I've looked for clips on YouTube to no avail.

Anyone else remember this show?

I remember the show although I didn't see it. I heard rave reviews about it though.

I remember the show but don't recall Kaps and Ricky doing coin magic together. Remember Kaps did the floating cork and Ricky Jay produced a live butterfly. Not much else except it was a great show

I remember the show in the vague way that I remember things. I thought it was mid 70s. [smile]

Ricky Jay controlled three cards using the Lorayne Spread Control. It was the talk of the Magic neighbourhood for a while. A couple of us recognised it, but everybody else hadn't a clue. We did feel smug.

I think Richiardi Jnr was also on this show. He was certainly on one of the Parkinson things.

Yep. And on the same trip you lectured in Liverpool, courtesy of Paul Stone. [smile]

Blather mist, I think that you are correct; there was an illusionist on the show and m fairly sure it was Richiardi Jr. Now you mention it. Thank you for that.

I think the show was mentioned in Pabular at the time but I don't recall reading an actual review of the show. I would love to see that show once more.

Fred Kaps performance of 'The Dancing Cork' - from The Parkinson Show in 1976:

A truly wonderful effect; marketed via the Legend that was Ken Brooke........until the thieves at Tannens ripped it off of course. [frown]
