I just started getting into mentalism and recently watched this really cool video and really want the box Spidey is using:

I understand the first half of this trick with Sven pad but there are 4 choices to choose from on the forced page; Chris selects one of the doodles on that page. The box would have to have 4 billets in it. I notice Spidey rotates the black box twice then makes a subtle upwards motion releasing the prediction billet; he then shakes the box to show there is a prediction in it.

Can I purchase this box from somewhere or is it an easy DIY?  I was thinking four shallow rectangular boxes in the lid with an open side facing each side of the box.  So when you rotate it and tilt it falls out without the others falling out. But I notice he does an upwards swing motion to release, then was able to really shake the box side to side.  I imagine if I made it the way I was thinking I couldn't shake the box side to side like he did or 3 billets would be in the bottom of the box by the time I opened it.

I think the best part of that video is right at the end where they say "don't buy a trick/prop/gimmick just because we use it - figure out if it works for you and fits your personality.  Developing social skills is the most important thing."

Thanks.  I've been reading / watching videos about this Gift box.  It's great! Love it!   I also ready you could do a similar thing, in a more portable manner with nested sealed envelopes.  Depending how you tear open the envelope you can have three different outcomes.

If you are interested in clever envelopes, Mark Leveridge has a book called "Forever Flapping Plus" - it has lots of DIY ideas.  There are tons of other individual envelope ideas scattered through the literature.   David Regal has a routine called "The Impossible Envelope" in which you ask an audience member several questions during the course of the show.  At the end of the show you open the large envelope which has been sitting in view the whole time and pull out a large card which shows correct predictions of all her answers.

Eugene Burger, on his "Exploring Magical Presentations" DVD set, devoted a lot of time to what he called "The Black Envelope Variations" - different presentations for the same basic effect.  Burger's thinking on how to make magic meaningful is inspiring.

I wonder if Robin's wisdom will be had, in his first post here?

Can we agree as a group and in the interest of helping eachother, that focusing on what works for one, isn't a guarantee it will work for us all? How many of us actually visualize ourselves performing something, not as the person demonstrating the effect but as ourselves, with or own flare and style?

Often times even the most casual of looks to the past, can provide us with all the "new" things we would ever need. Having said that to always keep our eyes open to how we can incorporate technology and modernization, into our act can be a good thing.

I didn't  have to think about it much. I bought it and am glad I did.  It's a wonderful tool. I use Mark Leveridge Double Flap Switch envelope to make itty bitty envelopes for it, for a total of 8 outcomes.  I did a trick with it the other day, with force (Svengali) pad (movies I like and their characters), with force page having 8 characters to choose from.  My BF loved it.  He was blown away I could figure out which movie he'd pick and then which of the 8 characters on that movie page he'd choose.  It's pretty powerful.  I bought it because it was one of the most magical things I've seen with respect to mentalism.

Neat idea! Okay well I think I might make my own gift box now adding your idea 😉. If I do I'll share photos in The Sessions 😉. Or I might just make a new lid for The Gift to start 😉

I could make a pentagon, hexagon or say even octagon shaped box for even more 😉. (jk)

Oh I wouldn't have to tear it down. I see how it is constructed. I've made a lot of boxes already with chipboard in the past, for print and play board games, gift boxes etc.  I could make one pretty easily I think.

About the Gift

The box and how it works is very gimmicky and requires very good hand placement. For me it's not a really workable item, for how I want my mentalism to look.

Having said that, it very clever and unique method. Personally I wouldn't try, to make it myself.

Hrm, I seem to open it really easily every time, very quickly.  I am getting a ring so I can use that instead of the supplied wearable gimmick.  Both my BF and brother were blown away.  I've used the box several times each on them and they haven't caught on whatsoever.

Try swiping the through the sweet spot with included gimmick , back and forth a couple time really fast.  I get it every time. I drag it on surface.

I agree, A lot of props are bought simply because the performer likes the method. Probably just as effective for lay people with a Himber wallet and two double envelopes.

BUT Angelo Carbone is a genius and has developed many clever ideas.

I noticed Spidey is using a PK ring to trigger the gimmick in this video at 8:36
