Another gem from Harry’s Apocalypse Magazine! Richard Vollmer comes up with some very creative methods to accomplish tricks like this.

Thanks for sharing!

It’s a clever method to what is essentially a spelling trick with a failure phase. Method is clever but the effect is quite subpar in my opinion.

I think I agree....What if instead of the spectator doing the lie detector bit they can say and spell any word, their favourite celebrity etc. You just keep a tally of how many cards you've dealt (might be workarounds with crimps or short cards). You could have some real fun with it, and then the failure phase could be built into that (or potentially not used if the spectator gives you sufficient letters).

Although that's more of a presentational suggestion than a design suggestion. I think I agree that the initial failure does seem like a bit of a let down after all that dealing even if you correct it later. Oh wait, what if it was the location of 2 selected cards and one card finds the other. All you need to do is a force (or even a free selection peek + control).

Of course the above discussion only matters if you agree that the trick is weak. If you think it's good enough as is, maybe those avenues are just hypothetical.
